How did you protect your ends while growing out layers?

Hello ladies, I just subscribed to the forum, but I have been lurking for months. I would like to know from those of you who have/are in the process of growing out your layered hair. What did you do to protect your ends while growing out your layers. I think that this is the hardest thing for me.

I just recently had more cut, but they are longer this time around...but when they were really short, i would have to use soo many pins to keep an updo together...you can do phony ponies and phony buns, but you will need everything you can think of to hold your hair back!

I've been doing rollersets, flexirods, wash n go's, and straw sets. My hair now finally goes into a bun with just a little moisturizer to keep it down.
