What Are Needed For Healthy Hair?

What products are necessary for healthy hair?
(Ex: Shampoo, Conditioner, etc.)

I have another question, what is better no-lye or lye relaxers? If lye is, what relaxer can I get that I can purchase at my local beauty supply?

As far as what products are concerned, I think different things work for different people. So it's kind of hard to pin it down to a particular product.

The "techniques" that seem to aid in having healthy hair seem to be minimizing heat, using a wide-tooth comb, wearing styles that aren't stressful to your hair (for example, no tight braids, no pulled back styles, not too much manipulation), and lastly keeping the hair moisturized.

I'm not relaxed, so I don't know which relaxers are better.

Some people find lye is better than no lye. No lyes can leave the hair dry and dull. Most of the relaxers that arent in a box kit are lye. It will also say it on the container. What no lye do you use?

I'm sorry ladies, I stated my question wrong but your answers were still helpful.
But I mean what type of products, not the brand, is necessary for healthy hair...
Ex: Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner, Leave-In, etc.

*Tracy* I use Profectiv No Lye and I am thinking about changing to a Lye relaxer, any suggestions??

Also a well balanced diet is key. In fact, I think MOST important along with products and a consistent routine.

shampoo and deep conditioner.

i dont find a leave in too important as long as a good moisturizer is used daily

I think a good shampoo, conditioner, and protein treatment/reconstructor is absolutely necessary. Also something to moisturize your hair between washes, especially on the ends.

A good lye relaxer (my fave) is Design Essentials Mild.

DEEP CONDITIONNER DEEP CONDITIONER DEEP CONDITIONER....

oh did I say deep conditioner?

I think that's the number one thing that aids in healthy hair, and everything else is second to that. (I use heat all the time. I credit my conditioner to keeping my hair healthy.)

oh I forgot about your lye/no-lye question.

A no-lye relaxer left my hair a brittle mess and broke it off pretty badly. No lye relaxers leave a calcium build up on the hair that tends to leave hair dry. Some people's hair can stand it...mine can't!

It took a year for my hair to recover from the damage. I went back to using motions regular. Design Essentials has an excellent relaxer also, but my stylist out here doesn't have it.

I'm sorry that your personal experiences were bad with Motions, I've used it on my hair and it worked very well!
I just forgot whether it is no lye or lye??
