I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but here goes.

I have 4a type hair that is relaxed and I was trying to get that loose wet and wavy type hair style that I see on some videos. Can anyone tell me if I can achieve that and how.
I was also wondering if I could get this style could it be considered a protective style since I wouldn't be bothering my hair much.

I have relaxed hair and I do this all the time. Problem is, my hair doesn't curl as much as it used to and it never looks right because of some overprocessing, not to mention I have a ton of textures in my hair.

Anyway

I have to use something sticky and then scrunch. Jam Gel or Black and Sassy have always been good for my scrunching. You may want to apply a leave-in and/or mousse first before your srunching product to get maximum wave/curl definition.

Kaykay,

After you wash and condition your hair, let it air dry then put some s curl and braid it in about 6-8 braids. The next day you'll have moist and wavy hair. Thats what I do and I consider it a protective style because my hair is still getting plenty of moisture with the s curl.

S-curl totally rocks!!! I have been wearing my medium box braids for a month now and wanted to see my hair. I removed one from the middle where I can hide it. Well boy oh boy was my hair moist from root to end, with no build up. Bonus -- my hair grew so much from all that moisture. Kinda like back in the curly days of the 80's LOL.

i like scurl too..but it does leave a build up on my hair...nothing a little clarifying treatment won't fix!

Thank you guys! Oh and hey brionsgirl this is Caramel kereen. I think I will try the braiding instead of scrunching, because I am sure I can find a way to mess the scrunching up.

i twist set my hair and put cold rod rollers on the ends of them and it comes out like the rock the boat video

Thank you everyone for all the ideas, I am going to try all of them until I find out which one works for me.

Scrunching will only work if you have some wave or curl in your natural hair already. You can tell by the way your hair looks when it's wet. If it's bone straight then it wont work.

S-curl doesn't work on my hair for this. I use a some oil and conditioner on it when it's wet and let it air dry.

The braid out or twist out is a great alternative. I used to do this when my hair was bone straight. HTH
