Weekly Flatiron Part II: Checking In Again Pics + Comparison)

Okay, so I just flat ironed my hair after taking (almost) a week off, wearing a bun and just leaving it in a fro, like Aleeeesha recommended. Still used my staples--L'occitane Repairing Shampoo and Mask, and threw in Joico's Restructuring conditioner for the protein. The only thing I did differently was try Korres Leave in Protein Spray. Big Mistake. Too much protein made my hair feel a little crunchy but I think it still came out OKAY. I still didn't notice too much breakage. BTW, I have the best flat iron in the world, IMO, but I think the produce I'm using really help the end result.

I decided to curl it under this time so you guys to tell the difference between the other pic. The third pic is from almost two weeks ago. The last pic (about three/four months ago) with the shortest hair was pre-great-flat-iron purchase and pre-L'occitane purchase, so you can see the difference.

So, for those of you who are following, how am I doing?

Hey... Your hair looks great from the pics. When you DC rotate between moisture and protein listening to what your hair needs... You could have over loaded on the protein and hence the crunch... That can cause breakage so it can be a thin line between needing some moisture or protein for some.

Funny thing was that my hair felt great until I put the Korres in it. Something told me I should have used a non-protein leave in. I think I just may throw that stuff out. It got poor reviews on the web anyway.

Beautiful. :congrats: It is definately longer and thicker. Your regimen seems to work very well for you. What do you consider the worlds best flat iron? Maxiglide maybe!

I bought the Paul Mitchell Ion Pro Express, and I love it. It's all ceramic, plus it has a silicon strip to help with the grip and keep from snagging. I FINALLY got a cosigner on it...BrEE, another member just bought it through Amazon and likes it too. It's a fairly new product...not many reviews on the web yet.

BTW, I'm also using Ted Gibson's hair sheets as a heat protectant. Someone posted a healthy hair article from Essence Magazine and stylist recommended them. I have to say they work pretty well.

You can just keep it and mix it in from time to time with something else so you don't waste it.:yep:

Your hair looks gorgeous :gorgeous:, what's your weekly routine? I'm transitioning (about 80% natural) and want to flatiron 2ce a month, I decided on a modified Ateyaaa's routine (Aphogee based)

Thanks! Here's the routine I'm developing. I'm still working out the kinks (ha ha)

1.Weekly wash with L'occitane Repairing Shampoo 2x (it is an SLS free, very gentle shampoo that feels like you just washed with conditioner)

2. Light protein conditioner (my hair is fine, it needs it) like Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Treatment. I also bought Joico's Restructuring Conditioner because of all the raves I've heard on the board--the jury is still out if it will remain in the rotation.

3. Follow up protein conditioner with L'occitane Repairing Mask. OMG. Best stuff ever. Then I detangle gently with wide tooth comb.

4. Blow dry on low heat, high air

5. Rub Ted Gibson's Hair sheets all over as a heat protectant

6. Flat iron with Paul Mitchell Ion Pro Express (highly recommended)

7. I also curl my hair with the flat iron and use Jane Carter's Wrap and Curl lotion, which is excellent and gives a beautiful shine and a light hold.

HTH!

Still looking good. I am kinda of doing this with you. That flat iron looks great.

We should start a little sorority! Let's call it, "The Girls that Defy Conventional Wisdom by Using Heat Somewhat Regularly!" :lachen::lachen::lachen:

Seriously, keep my posted on how you're doing with it. This is kind of an experiment for me too--I want to see if my hair can take it and still grow.

Thank you for explaining how you get these results, every time I see your pictures I am always amazed at how curly you can get your hair with a flat iron.

The combination of the setting lotion and the flat iron work really well for me. Before I purchased the Paul Mitchell, I had to curl with an iron afterwards and quickly roller set with magnetic rollers while my hair was still warm so it would set. Now all I do smooth on a little foam on a sectioned part and follow it up with the flat iron to curl and it stays all day.

OP, your hair looks gorgeous. What is your hair type and what flat iron are you using?
