What is the longest you left a weave on w/o suffering breakage or damage.

I have done it for about 6-8 weeks and I like to extend to 12 weeks but I'm afraid my conrows underneath will turn to dreads :drunk:

I do wash my hair weekly and spritzs my conrows underneath daily :spinning:

2 months is fine. IM NOT SURE ABOUT 12 WEEKS:perplexed I have a sew in that i got March 21 and I plan on leaving it till May 22. Make sure you moisturize your real hair and you SHOULD be fine.

I've gone 12 weeks before when I was relaxed once with no problems. But I usually take it out between 6 and 8 weeks. I get bored with the style by then. If this is your first weave, I suggest you stick with 6 to 8.

i wore a sew in for 5 months (oct-mar). lol i know a mess, but I had no problems. I had great growth. But i must also say my stylist is wonderful and puts them in really well so they last. but if i can go 5months, you can go 12weeks. But again be mindful of your hair, you will know best how long is good for you and stick with it

I am wearing a full weave exclusively for the next year. I've had my sew-in since Feb. 21st., and I'm getting it tightened this Friday which makes 6 weeks. My next appointment to get it redone is May 22 which will be 13 weeks. Reniece does my hair and I'm confident that the 13 weeks won't be a problem.

the longest i've gone is 2.5 months...no problems...right now i have a half head sew in weave w cornrows in the front they've been in since 2 weeks ago today and i'm leaving it in until 6/7 so i think that's like 10-11 weeks...almost!!

Hello Everyone,
The longest I like to go is 8-10 weeks. I've gone longer but my hair started to tangle and matt from the shampooing and growth. I think the braiding pattern matters too. The stylist has to know how long you are wanting to wear your weave so they can style it accordingly. If you want to wear it longer, I would suggest getting it braided vertically and wearing a net over the braids, then sew on the hair. I do weaves,on the side, so I know this works. HTH

I personally can't wear a weave longer than 5 weeks because my hair grows too fast and the braids start to really loosen up and are far from my head!!! Then the weave starts to hang!! Its a mess but if you don't have that problem.. Moisturize your hair really well and you should be fine

how does one tighten a weave without redoing the cornrows and sewing the hair back on? i would love to try this.

this is what i find. the cornrows are so far off my head at that point!

This is the first time I'm having this done, but the way it was explained to me is, she checks for loose tracks and re-sews them. I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow.

I wonder if we have run into each other at Reneice's. :yep:
I've had my tracks tightened before by another stylist before I started going to Reneice. it's pretty much like you said, check for any loose, slipping parts and get a good shampoo and conditioning by somebody else.

We are trying to pinpoint the exact time I can go before I need mine redone now. It varies person to person, but at one point as if almost overnight, I can't go any further. We are trying 8 weeks this time.

I started having that problem once I went atural. Never when I was relaxed. It's really weird.Around week 4 it would be a mess. I'm on week 6 with this weave now and I'm suprised I've made it this long. And she didn't add the braiding hair to the braids. I have new growth but nothing is loose or unraveling. And I've been washing every 3-4 days.

Well, I got my weave tightened yesterday. It was a very quick appt. (30 minutes tops). My hair was already pre-washed so all she did was check the cornrows to see if the hair was matted or tangled, then she went row by row to see if was loose. She tightened the loose tracks and then I was done.

Well I must be waisting money because I leave it in for 4-6 weeks. I get VERY bored with the style :look:and because my edges are so week, if I leave them in longer, they will form into bald spots. If I didn't have the balding problem, then I would fight through the boredom and leave them in for about 8-10 weeks.

8-10 weeks. 8 is about my max.

I just realized that all the people who stretch to 12 weeks have some major leaveout. I do closures and by 6 weeks it's drifting like whoa. It's annoying having to get it redone so quickly but I'm not trying to have some leaveout and busting out the flat iron daily to match my 4zzz edges with some silky hair from a very non-black head :nono:

I just deal. I'm dying right now but I'm having to push back another week just due to time. Taking it down and getting it redone.

I just keep my eye on the goal. Weave is pretty on me because my face pops more with long hair but the goal is my own hair getting healthy and long. I moisturize the mess out of my hair underneath. first and foremost and if I get a lil crazy I bust out the baby powder to tame the shine on the weave but my own hair comes first
