Weave Service Co$t: How Much Is Too Much?

Recently, I was charged $380 for a weave service (included take-down, leave-out color, and new install). So, if I have 6 weaves a year (every 2 months) that would be $2280 per year! I have major sticker-shock!

I'm in a major metro area. The stylist is very competent and knowledgeable of natural aro hair, but wow!

Are these prices normal or am I just cheap (and clueless)?

ETA: Hair was not included in that price-- I purchased on my own, so that's an added cost

I don’t think that’s too much for the service because that’s several hours worth of work. If it included the cost of hair i’d say it’s a steal but I’m sure it doesn’t.

$2280 is just under $200/month for hair care, to me that’s reasonable upkeep. If the cost of the hair doubles that then I would have to have take a serious look at other styling options.

That's about right for washing, color and take down included.

In the salon 180-240ish sew in install no washing. I'm in Houston.

On cheap end I know someone who does sew ins for 120 no washing (in her house, but she's licensed & she's good, she's done cynthia and her sis hair rhoa).

It’s more than I’m willing to commit to but it’s not unreasonable. If the cost is too high you should consider investing in a quality wig. After the initial expense you’re just spending time and money conditioning the wig and your own hair and braid downs if you go that route. It’s much cheaper.

Thanks for all the replies!

It's reassuring that to hear that this falls within the normal price range. I don't have a good reference point because my previous service was about 30% lower (special circumstances).

I think that's pretty good.
