Wearing hair curly

I have recently grown out of my relaxer and discovered that my hair is curly. But it is very dry. What products help the hair stay in a "wet" state. I used some alcohol free gel and some other moisterizer I had on hand, but of course that did nothing. One young lady I know mentioned Aveeda products I believe....... Please help

I wish I knew!! My curl disappeared finally, and I'm having no luck getting it back! I'm not aboutt o go broke trying everything the ladies here have suggested, as glad as I am they did! I guess I'll just give up for now and wait and see what happens!

I use LA acurl activator gel with aloe vera, Its just like fantasia IC Polisher gel but less expensive. It holds my curls alday. You can also try this lime green gel from got2b as well. i had a sample and plan on buying it sometime in the future. Mango butter does well too. but since my hair is short it may or may not hold better on longer hair.

All I do is a conditioner wash with a detangler like biolage detangling solution. My curls pop up then. After I rinse the conditioner out, I apply olive oil, and maybe a little fantasia ic gel to the edges. That usually works. My hair stays moist. I did this this morning and pulled it up into a curly puffy ponytail.

I am VERY curly, too! Try:

1. Paul Mitchell's Foaming Pomade. Excellent for forming and keeping curls.

2. Paul Mitchell's "The Cream". It's a moisturizer. Excellent to keep curls conditioned and moisturized.

3. Loreal's product line called "Perfect Curls." There's two main products: the Conditioner for frizz control and the creme moisturizer to keep, hold and form curls without frizz.

4. Surge's Woojee Cream! Excellent! Excellent!

All three products have performed the best on my curls. My suggestion is that you be careful about using too many products. Clarify once every month or few weeks. Follow up with a deep conditioner. Try adding a little olive oil to all conditioners. Also read the ingredients on the back of each product. You might find that you are more sensitive to protein. Definitely don't use products where the 1st or 2nd ingredient ends with "ol." That's a sure indication that the product contains a lot of alcohol. Alcohol dries the hair quite a bit, especially for us curlies...

You'll have to experiment and see what works best for you. That can be fun, but expensive as well. Try switching up products every 2 or three months...

Good luck on your product journey...

I'm soooo glad you posted this because I am going through major dryness too w/ my texturized hair. Nothing is working for me. I tried s-curl last nite and it didn't work

I was thinking of Aveda also....

I'm bumping for more info for both of us

Eliminating shampoo (except during retouches) has given my curls more definition. Also, using water/glycerin spritzes helps keep them moist without stickiness. I also add oil to the conditioner and don't quite rinse it all out. I use cool water rinses. ACV rinses about every week or so.

1. condition wash (with or w/o oil)..cool water rinse
2. acv rinses
3. glycerin/water spritz

Wow, that has me thinkin', I try a lot of different products, but I like elasta qp feels like silk if you want the "wet look". Glycerin/water is good, mango butter, healthy hair butter, and s-curl are all good products for moisture as well. I also use world of curls curl activator gel, it leaves my hair very moist! Hope this helps!

I products I have the best results with so far are long aid curl activator gel, elasta qp gel, and spritz with vegetable glycerin.

So, about the Elasta QP gel (this was the one I saw mentioned the most), do you have to use a lot, lioke saturate your hair with it, or just run it through a bit?

Yeaaahhhh!!! I'm so happy all of you responded. I'm new here and all of this info is overwhelming. none of my friends have my hair type so they're no help. Although I'm sure my pockets will be upset, I'm gonna try all of these and see what works best. Thanx a billion

I like a combo of Salon Selectives Under Firm Control gel and Salon Selectives Moulding Putty. Fantasia IC Gel with Sparkles Lites is also good. Salon Selectives gives me a fluffier style than IC.

I scrunch my gels into soaking, dripping wet hair then air dry. I don't comb my hair after I've applied the gels otherwise my definition turns into frizz.

what is an acv rinse?

apple cider vinegar mixed with water. Very diluted I use (1/2 cup acv + 28 oz of water)

You can get glycerin in the drugstore. I believe they sell it at walmart too, but I'm not sure about that. I got a large bottle online at FNWL. I prefer making my own hair spritzer in a spray bottle and it's less expensive than buying s-curl.

I am also having the same problem. When I come out the shower my curls are defined and shiney, but when my hair dries I end up with frizzy hair.

I tried just Cwashes, gel on wet hair, moisturizer and glycerine.

Please send somemore advice.

TIA
