I plan to wear a wig for the next 5 weeks everyday (only taking it off to sleep). I plan to grease my scalp and ends every 3 days (no other manipulation). Is this a bad idea? I need to focus on my finals and I can't be arsed to do hair.

Advice very much appreciated.

I have never worn a wig. However, I know one woman who wore her wig every day for about a year. She told me she would oil her hair every couple of day and rebraid it. Her hair broke off and when she did wear her hair out it grew to below shoulder length. Yet she continues to wear her wigs for the convenience.

I was scared something like that would happen...:(

Oh no! I am sorry! I meant her hair broke off before she started wearing a wig. No, her hair actually grew. Alot at that. The entire time she wore the wig she took really good care of her hair. She washed her hair once a week. She would oil it and braid it up. She would re-oil her hair every couple of days. She lives by grease, just as long as it has sulfer or castor oil in it.

Sorry for not being clear.

ETA: Yeah I reread my post. I said everything out of order.

 I'm a happy bunny now :D

Thanks for the advice

I have been doing this for a year and a half:eek:. I have never worn my real hair out since I BCed. But this spring and summer I decided that it's time to be free and enjoy my own hair:). But if you take care of your hair you shouldn't have any problems. I wash my hair once a week moisturize it really well, braid it up and wig it anytime I have to leave my home. I always wear a wig cap and moisturize and oil my edges before I put on my wig cap every morning. I take it off as soon as I get home in the evenings. Now I am a bit worried about how I am going to style my hair everyday since I can't depend on my wig anymore for convenience.:look:But I wanted to gain more length so that I can at least pull back my hair into a pony tail or a puff and I think I will be able to do that now for convenience or when I don't feel like wearing a wash and go, braidout or twist out.

Classyebonygirl you look like you have a nice length of hair to style now in your signature, I love it! I can't wait to get to that length!!

I think this will work out very well for you. I do this from time to time with no problems. I just braid my real hair straight back in corn rows. This way, I oil my scale everyday without fail, plus conditioner wash every day/other day with the braids in. Then re-braid around 2-3 weeks and repeat this until I miss my hair. This is also an execellant relaxer stretch method for me.

Thank you!!!:Blush2: I have not really tried styling my hair as yet with my current length but I did a touch up on Friday and I think I have acheived some more length now than the pics in my signature. So I am going to give it a shot and try to make a puff or even a bun with a hair foundation (bun donut) next weekend after I recolor my hair. Another reason why I have not attempted to style my hair is because I didn't want to manipulate it too much due to underprocessing in some areas, mainly the front. I also have different lengths all over my hair right now. The front is the shortest, the sides are chin length and the back is touching the end of my neck.:ohwell:

Don't worry you will get to that length in no time you just have to be patient and continue to take good care of your hair. Happy hair growing!!:antlers::cheers:

I wore one for about...9 months straight (wow I didn't know it was that long!!!!!). I kept my hair cornrowed underneath and wore a satin cap on top of my hair, then the wig. I took it off everyday after work though and made sure I took care of my hair (still DC weekly, moisturized, trims, etc.). I also didn't use any glues or tape. I have photos in the Salon Weaves and Lacefront folder in my fotki.

I've been wearing a demi wig/instant weave. I moisturize my ends daily and most of the time, baggy them (I have 7 plaits under the wig). I oil my scalp twice daily, mornings w/WGO and evenings w/a MTG homemade version. I wash about every 3 days. They don't make satin wig caps, or if they do, I haven't found any anywhere, but I havea sating turban which is light and I wear that usually under it. Sometimes, I may wear a satin bonnet. I have even at times worn a scarf with the bonnet and even sometimes a plastic cap, but I like the turban best. Lately, I've been putting Profectiv Break Free, some squirts of Infusium 23 and moisture and oil on the part in the front where the comb inserts, out of fear of breakage in that area. I don't use the back combs at all due to my fear. I extremely gently remove the comb at night. I take the wig off every night. My last wash, there was so little hair in the comb I could've counted each one, so I guess it's working :) . I am really enjoying it for the convenience. I can just easily slap this bad boy on at any time to run out and do errands and not look crazy, on days off. They look cute! Everyone thinks it's my real hair! I wore a wavy one yesterday and my mom asked me what did I do to my hair to get it that way! And she *knows* I've been wearing wigs! Anyway, I've been too long, but know that you're not the only one "wiggin' out"! :D
