I have 2 gels.... Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel and CURLS Edge Control.
Aloe vera gel use to flake but I apply maracuja or argan oil on top to prevent it from drying hard then breaking into flakes.
The Curls Gel is really a shiney, strong hold gel. I would apply a little bit to my wet hair to help lessen the affect.
A wax seems more like a coating (while though I have no experiences using a wax). I think you hair can benefit from protein or repairing gels then cuticle coating waxes. IJS!
Gels
Fantasia IC - Great flexible hold
Ecostyler (any) - Firm hold, but not drying.
As I Am Gel - Flexible, soft hold
Cons: I can only use it on last day hair because I don't want build up; but I wash every 3 days so its not a big deal.
Paste
Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste - Soft hold, holds edges back like nothing else.
Cons: A little goes a long way. I keep it on the edges because your hair can look too straight, waxy or pasty if you use any more than that.
Thick Leave Ins.
Any type for me (Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter, etc). My hair is on the fine side so a little leave in and 10 minutes under a scarf and my hair is set for the day.
Cons: If your hair is more kinky or thick, it probably won't work.
I use those edge control products. I'm currently using Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges. I have also used ORS Edge Control in the past. The former gets the job done without feeling too tacky after application. ORS is a lot firmer. I prefer the smell of the ORS though.
I also like the Eco stylers for their strong hold. I have natural 4 A/B hair. Aint no creme or butter going to hold these edges down. I need something skrong. Eco stylers do the job well.
My favorite right now is kismera straightening wax(when curly) or Osis Fiber gum(when straight) i prefer waxes because they actually makes my edges smooth and stay smooth. plus they wash out relativley easily. gels tend to cake and curl my edges up. plus they get really hard while waxes tend to give strong hold without being hard.
