I am on a modified method of water only. But you have to actually wet or rinse your hair everyday for a bit in the shower with warm (not hot) water and not just use a spritz bottle though the spritz bottle with water can be used to refresh your hair.
I have rinsed my hair everyday since May with warm water. So essentially I wet my hair everyday.
Now that my hair has reaped the benefits of that method, I now will go back to rinsing my hair with warm water at least every three days but spritzing my hair which I put into flat twists so it is stretched.
Our natural sebum will usually be able to get to your roots and a bit but for the rest of your hair like the ends you may need to help it along. Now the key with this whole water only routine is that you have to be aware that some products commercial, natural and some oils may actually compete badly with your sebum and lead to dryness.
Water of course will shrink your ends, but if you use a tiny spritz you should be fine. But also it depends on how long your hair is. I would only use a spritz bottle on hair that is stretched or if I was using a spritz to prepare my hair for a roller set but just like that the air would evaporate the water and lead to dryness if your hair is left open.
The waterwashonly lady now has a website. Check it out.

almond eyes I've just started doing a modified version of the water only method as well. Have you reached full coverage? Are you natural? Thanks!
