Wash & Wear look...

sorry if this is a double post but I cant find the post I tried earlier. Anyway, To you relaxed 4a/4b ladies who have had success with wash and wear hair, could you tell me the steps u take and the products you use? I think this is a great summer style in hot/humid FL. I plan to do a lot of CO washes this summer bc I work out and sweat a lot regardless.

I 1st discovered this style a few years ago ( way before learning about haircare) and would leave a large amount of regular conditioner (suave, etc) in my hair and add other stuff to it...after a while my hair started thining and breaking off a lot. I think I was overconditioning....so bc of that Im reluctant to leave any kind of conditioners in my hair.

My thing is I want to help my hair, not hurt it and want to acheive a fresh shiny look without frizz. Input is appreciated and thanx in advance!

Hi, what state is your hair in right now? If it's damaged or breaking I would suggest holding off on the chemicals until you get it back in order. I don't understand what you mean by overconditioning can you explain a lil bit more for me please? I think that once your hair is healthy then you can opt for a texturizer or you can even do braid/outs and twistouts for a nice textured look. My hair is texturized and I love it. RIght now I do braidouts with unrefined shea butter It makes my hair incredibly shiny! and my style lasts for a few days, when I do the wash and go style, I wash my hair, deepcondition and put on a cream lotion that's light and but on some spray moisturizer and I'm good to go. Right now I haven't found the "magic" product, still searching but I'm sure the ladies here will give you great suggestions.

hey its me again. Right now my hair is pretty healthy and its relaxed (just had a touch up last week). I am pretty good at doing braid outs with just random plaits bc I cant cornrow, but was interested in CO washing and going sometimes this summer.

What I meant by overconditioning is a few years ago I had started to try the "wet look" by washing my hair, putting a big glob of random conditioner in it and some serum and maybe a little grease or something heavy and then as it dried I would srunch it and apply more product until it got mostly dry. then I rewet it throughout the day with a little water from my hands. Well it made my hair so soft it was weak and broke easily. I think its from leaving in conditioners that were supposed to be rinsed out. thats what happened...my hair started getting thinner and thinner and then shorter. but that was a long time ago, my hair is in its best shape ever now..thats why I dont want to do anything to hurt it...

co-washes are great! I do them all the time and my hair is so incredibly soft! It's hard to believe sometimes how easy it is to style my hair. I haven't had a bad hair day in a long time since joining this forum. I would definately suggest that you include co-washes in your regime. If you go for the wash and go relaxer (regular relaxer left on for a short time) make sure that you deep condition your hair once a week for 2-4 weeks before you put in the chems.

After reading your post I think you should stop leaving conditioners in your hair that are not meant for a leave in...If you are doing a CO wash, wash it out then apply a LEAVE-IN Conditioner and try not to weigh your hair down with so many products.
