I mostly go to a beautician for this but wanted to do it myself this time but every time I do it its a mess with knots.

Please help me step by step.

One really big tip is to wash your hair in sections. It's too overwhelming to tackle all of your hair at once. Stand under the shower while you're detangling because the water pressure will help you with detangling and start from your ends with a wide tooth comb and work your way up. Stop when you get to a snarl and use your fingers to gently work through the knot.

I personally divide my hair into 3 or 4 parts, wet each part and soak it with lots of conditioner. I then detangle it while the conditioner is still on my hair. I rinse and apply more conditioner and repeat the detangling process until the tangles and knots are gone. After this I apply shampoo, then deep conditioner. I made the mistake of applying shampoo first in the past and it was a matted mess.

Each braid make sure you break up the roots wth your fingers and remove the shed hairs.

You can moisten your fingers a little with water or condish. But dont wet yoyr hair full out until you work thru each of those braids and get thise sheds out.

Thanks everyone. I drenched my hair in olive oil and starting detangling section by section. It took me about 4 hours. So time and patience is key. I washed conditioned and blow dryed. The blow dryer got out the rest of the shed hairs. What a task.
