Wash day ( dc first or last)

I've been reading all you guys suggesting and very thankful for all the information and feedback .

I just have one question on wash day do you guys do a DC first or last ..

Or does it matter which one is complete first ..

I am transitioning and plan on washing my hair weekly

This week I was gonna start out in this order
1.DC for 30min
2.shampoo
3 .condition
4.M&S

I personally do the DC before I shampoo (so I guess its makes it both a pre-poo and a DC). I only do it to save time, and to not have to wash my hair out twice. I don't notice a difference in my hair between the two methods.

I think what would matter is what products are coating your hair. If you use heavy butters, thick stylers, grease or gels, a DC might not penetrate so it would be prudent to shampoo first.

For these reasons, DC ing first was a fail for my hair.

Pre poo
Wash
DC
Most of the time I moisturizer (leave in), seal, and style next. Depending on the DC I might use another rinse out right after I DC.

I always DC after I shampoo because any benefits I receive from doing it beforehand are removed once I rinse the shampoo from my hair. Besides, I cannot stomach the idea of applying a DC to dirty, product-laden hair.

You should test both methods to see which one your hair prefers.

I'm low porosity so I DC last. It doesn't do much good first. I have to start with clean hair.

i like to DC first so i don have to jump in and out the shower. if i don't dc first, i shampoo as soon as i get in the shower, then dc while i wash my body etc....either way is fine to me

Basically all I do is....

Coat my hair with oil, cover with plastic cap and let it sit overnight (Prepoo)

Shampoo w/ a Chelating or Moisturizing Shampoo (Depends on the amount of buildup I have....I don't dilute it)

DC with a moisturizing DC w/ steam

Apply Leaves Ins

Air Dry or Blow Dry

and style!

Hopes this helps :)

I DC first. I can't be bothered to keep getting in and out of the shower. So I do the following

DC (usually overnight)
Cleanse with baking soda in water
Condition
Rinse with ACV
Rinse with water
Apply leave-ins
Style

I coat my hair with evco, then I dc overnight using a moisture dc mixed with oil.
Then I shampoo with a moisture shampoo, then use a protein conditioner for a min or two. If my hair feels good, I stop there. If not, I use a moisture conditioner and rinse out.

@randi415 you don't use a a regular conditioner or is that what you mean by wash

I wash with a cleansing conditioner (wen, trader joes TTT, AIA cowash, or Naturelle grows cowash) I use shampoo about once a month. I sometimes use a regular conditioner after I DC especially if it's a heavy protein DC.

I'm sorry I'm new to this how if you pre poo
With oils ? You oil
Your hair then shampoo or mix it together with the shampoo @EnExitStageLeft

I pre poo w/ Vatika oil and/or SM purification masque for my scalp. The latter may not be necessary for most but I have scalp issues. I usually do this overnight or an hour prior to cleansing. I rinse before I shampoo.

Definitely DC before the wash. It is much better. I don't condition again after washing (I only shampoo wash my scalp), I just follow w/an oil rinse. Uber moisturizing ;)

I'm low porosity and I DC first, but it only works if I do it overnight. Otherwise, I DC last under a heat cap.

I've experimented. For me, the results are the same with most DCs

last, i don't see the point of deep conditioning before shampooing and the conditioner takes better on clean hair

I think it depends on what you put on your hair during the week. Most weeks, I'm using a light hair lotion and an oil water mix with only a little oil. I don't do heavy butters. Thus, my hair doesn't have a ton of build up or oil and my DC gets through on my "dirty" hair just fine.

I think it also depends on whether you are using a true DC or just a rinse out conditioner. DCs are meant to penetrate, so they have an easier time getting to the hair. Rinse outs are not.

I do it first to save me time. I also hate the feeling of a lot of deep conditioners so I like to do them first so I can wash them out.

The directions say wash first, but rules were met to be broken right.

The instructions on Aubrey Organics DC's say to deep condition first. It works perfectly.
