I will be watching this thread for responses.

I have not come across a leave-in that claims to smooth and clump the curls. And my leave-ins actually unclump and frizz-up my curls a bit upon contact. I have been contemplating using a defining curl cream as a leave-in if it claims to be moisturizing as well.

I even wrote an email to CRN to implore them to create a leave-in with the same curl-clumping properties of their Caramel Cowash :lachen: If it were not cleansing i.e. stripping, I would definitely use that cowash as a leave-in

ETA: my hair is cottony as well especially the crown and centre-front, and it has the worst type of porosity but I don't know what it's called.

@CurlyRy posted this in another thread and I was shocked with the performance of her leave in. I need something that will work like this!

(right after wetting hair-hair has started to shrink a tiiiid bit and this is before conditioner/styler)

(After conditioner. You see that clumping! I would advise some product that makes your hair clump. My hair sans products doesn't really clump but with this conditioner I get a lot of definition)

She used Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave In and I've already added it to the list of leave ins to try.

You are right! Good eye for spotting things. I like her results me too. I wonder how this thing happens. Look at the ingredients list:

Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Polyquaternium-37, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, PEG-50 Shea Butter, Glycerin, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Sodium PCA, Polyquaternium-7, Fragrance (Parfum), PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol

@CurlyRy Hi! What is your porosity? Is you hair naturally silky or kinky? Are there any other leave-ins that you find to be particularly clumping?

I'm not sure where this youtuber falls on the silky/cottony scale, but she said all the right things about Camille Rose Fresh Curl Hair Smoother at 00:43-01:15

Ingredients:
Deionized Water, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, DL Panthenol, Glycerin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado Oil) Sodium PCA, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS), Peach Quava, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol (Optiphen) and Love!

I think it's the aloe. I've been using giovanni direct leave in for yrs and it never caused my hair to clump until they reformulated it a few yrs back. What was the big difference? Aloe vera juice.

So the reformulated Giovanni Direct Leave In clumps your curls...

You may be on to something with the aloe. My beloved Ingredients To Die For Marshmallow Moisture Balm is aloe based and the clumpage is beautiful. But the price is not :(.

Same thing with my beloved Caramel Cowash:

Deionized Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium Cocoyl Taurate, Stearic Acid, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocamidoproryl Betaine (Coconut Derived), Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Phospholipids, Glycolipids, Glycine Soja (Soybean Oil) Sterols, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Caramel Extract, Witch Hazel Distillate, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Cetyl Esters, Glycerin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium (Guar Gum) Chloride, Phenoxyethanol/Caprylyl Glycol (Optiphen), Scent, Sorbic Acid, Disodium EDTA, and Love!

It also has that safflower oil in it. I wonder if this is by any means related.

I wonder how this one can do the trick. It has a lot of humectants (panthenol, glycerin, and sodium PCA) I wonder how it will act in a humid weather.

There are people that use reg old aloe vera gel to clump their curls but that never worked for me for some reason.
Oh why can't the bottled aloe vera juice or gel be similar to the real thing that everybody is raving about?
I know... I think it's not as good because of what they use to preserve it. I've heard the store bought juice that needs to be refrigerated is the best choice if you can't find the real thing. I've never tried it though so I don't know how true that is.

@CurlyRy Hi! What is your porosity? Is you hair naturally silky or kinky? Are there any other leave-ins that you find to be particularly clumping?

Hey girl:biggrin: . To be honest, I'm not totally sure about my porosity. I was a straighten natural for the better part of last year so I'm not sure how that might have affected that (Note: my hair doesn't have any heat damage/I used very low temps to straighten). I did do the porosity water test way back when and I believe my hair floated but I can't remember if I did it proper or not smh. I might do one soon to find out for sure.

My hair is mostly cottony, but I do have a few silkier parts around my face, mostly in the lower sections.

As for other leave-ins. I was bout to run up in here and tell you about this product I tried and I loved but I see that they have it down as more of a styling gel:whyme:But I do feel like it has more of a jelly feel and it feels more moisturizing then a usual gel. I used it by itself and rake it through my hair and let me tell you!!!! Best wash n go ever!! Before I thought I couldn't really "do" a wash n go because my hair doesn't really clump with the average conditioner and gels were kinda meh. But this stuff gave me crazy definition! The best! If I do a wash n go again I would definitely use that. I am a bit heavy handed:look: so it wasn't super soft at first but throughout wearing it it felt nicer.

It's Renpure's Coconut Creme Curling Jelly (Styling Gel). I got it from Marshall's or TJ Maxx. They also have this brand in Target and Walmart too. I really like the brand but it's not black owned :/. I'll put some pics I have of it. The first is when I first did it and I believe that my hair is still damp and the second is after a few days.

Oh!!!

Now very slowly, tell me EXACTLY what you applied to your hair the 24 hours surrounding this. :lachen:

Seriously, though, what ALL did you do? (Cleanser, dc, leave-in, gel, techniques, etc.).

Oh wow it's given you amazing definition! And the hold seems to be great too if that second picture is several days later. So it does have a gel crunch, from what you say, right?

Btw your curl pattern reminds me a lot of mine in its current state. But I'm texlaxed so I don't know what my real hair will eventually look like!

I have been searching for actual leaves for so long but I have given up on finding any. The bottled gels contain copolymers and act like a regular hair gel with crunch and everything. I don't mind it too much but I know that it's the copolymers that are clumping my hair and I could simply use Wetline or something instead of the AVG. And the bottled juice leaves my hair rough and dry.

Girl, I'm the worst with remembering products and all of that. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast! lolo_O

This is probably because I'm in a use up what I have mode. But I probably used Denorex dandruff control shampoo (a while back there was a pretty good thread on here suggesting naturals to use shampoos with salicylic acid on the scalp so I've been doing it every since.) Then I probably lightly used Avalon Organics Nourishing Lavender on my actually hair. I wash my hair in plaits that have already been detangled, by the way.

Afterwards I might have just used plain aloe vera gel as a type of rinse. I use to do that a lot for the pH and I just liked how it made my hair feel. Afterwards I just went section by section making sure to rake EACH hair coil/clump with the product (the renpure curling jelly). I was so shocked by the clumping that I don't think I felt the need for a conditioner or anything. Also, I think that raking is just as important as the product. But yeah, that's all I can remember. If and when I do a wash n go again, I'll let you know my exact steps! lol

Yeah, I really loved the product the hold was perfect!.....drove out to pick me up some mo bottles just in case they tried to switch it up on me:nono2:

and yeah there was a bit of a crunch haha. But not too much, I think I could of eased that if I would have used a conditioner mixed with it but I didn't want to get them white balls and I was also pleased with the product just on it's own. You said what your real hair will eventually look like, are you planning on transitioning?

Yeah I know how disappointing it is to do a perfect wash and go only to end up with white flakes when your hair finishes drying.

I am actually transitioning. My last texlaxer was in April of this year. I even cut a part of my hair into a twa to see if my natural hair has a pattern of its own that is wearable or not.

Ended up with this:

But it's too short to tell the whole story as of now.

Your hair is so cute! :love3:

It's pretty, girl I think a TWA would be cute on you. That's something I would have changed if I could have gone back. Just go really short. I did go pretty short but I would have loved to have experienced a total TWA. Anywho, good luck with the rest of the transition, I'm sure you'll be very happy with your end results!

Awww thank you, you're so kind!
I wish I had the courage to cut a full twa but when I think about how coily my hair is and how long it's going to take me to get back to my length with all this shrinkage, I freak out. I'm already struggling with this partial twa I have because I can't twist it or braid it or pin it down. I just can't wait for it to grow out already lol.

Aussie moist conditioner clumps my hair and leaves it very soft. I seal it with a light oil.

I use this already, but slap it on and brush it through before applying gel for quick styling. Next use I'll take my time applying and see what happens.

I'll give this a shot too. It sounds similar to the consistency of my MMB. Oddly enough, I bought a Renpure conditioner this week hoping it would work as a leave in. It was a big fail.

Girl I know what you mean. After I transitioned, my twists weren't long enough for a ponytail/bun so I would always pin them on my head. Every day was a new hairstyle because I would pin them up any kinda way lmao. :lachen:

That stinks, I like their biotin and collagen conditioner but yeah they aren't really anything special.

I really just glanced through the thread :look: but aloe does have a nice clumping effect. The main reason I don't bother is the LoPo thing. I noticed Naptural uses aloe and gets really nice WNGs.

Eden bodyworls has always been so heavy for me, but I haven't tried the reformulated version. And I may need to try the CRN eventually.
