Waaaa, I want an avatar

But I'm a dummy. I don't know how to add one. I tried on my own and it said wrong picture type. How do I go about adding avatars, and which pics work? /images/graemlins/hammer.gif

First off, as a rule, these things only work if the image is a .jpg, .gif or .png image. (.jpg and .gif are the only ones you should concern yourself with, though. You can tell what kind of file it is by looking at the file extension.) Bitmaps (.bmp) won't work.

Second, the image should be 80X80 pixels in size or smaller. How to resize it will depend on what graphics-related programs are available on your computer, but it seems like all of them (MS Paint doesn't count) have a Resize Image option somewhere.

Rochelle, I am beginning to think it's more than just that. I sent Melodee these .jpg pics - all 80 x 80 pixels - to test them before helping her minimize the one she wanted to use and I understand she had trouble using even these. I'm afraid to test them myself because if there's a glitch, I don't want to lose my current avatar.

What does the error message say? (If she's trying to use files stored on her home computer or the server doesn't allow remote linking, that could also cause problems.)

The files I sent her to test (the ones I listed) are stored on my fotki album so I don't think it's the issue with them being stored on her private PC or a linking issue. She said she had problems with those too. Not sure what the error message she got when she tried those URLs was but there's another thread on the second page of this Q&A forum on the same topic so it could be a glitch since the upgrade.
