Okay, everyone I am tired of my dreadlocks and want to cut these suckers out of my hair. However, I want to have some new growth first. At least 3- 4 inches worth. Will Viviscal help me? Where do I get it and will I start growing more hair on my body as well as my head? When can I stop using it?

How much new growth do I have to have on my head before I can get two strand twist extensions or other braid extensions til my hair grows some? Please respond and thank you

Page Madison she just cut out her dreadlocks!!! Put cutting dreadlocks in your subject and I am sure she will get back to you /images/graemlins/wink.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

o.k. I don't know how long your dreads are, but I HAVE to find this thread for you on nappturality.com!! There is a woman who actually TOOK HER LOCKS DOWN!! So that she didn't have to cut her hair and her locks had been in for years, and she has type 4 hair so it wasn't an easy task.

She give instructions on how she did it if you are interested I will link the post to this page.

I didn't know you could undo locks until I read her post, and her hair looks really good, she just said that it did take her a looooong time, more than a few days. But possibly another alternative to cutting your hair.

Tara i sure wish that i would've seen those instructions before i cut my hair /images/graemlins/grin.gif can you post them im curious as to how she did it /images/graemlins/smile.gif

hi bedstuygirl welcome to the board /images/graemlins/smile.gif

i've never tried viviscal so i cant answer that question. i clipped off my locs on 12/4. I think i had maybe 2 inches of new growth i went to a braider and she told me that i had enough length to have extensions put in but she wanted to charge me 95dollars /images/graemlins/shocked.gif and i walked out the shoppe.

what really spead up my growth was the twinlabs amino fuel and biotin . my hair has been growing rapidly since the cut.

Right now im wearing my wigs and i plan to get my hair braided sometime this summer.

hi. yes, yes, please send me the link if you can find it. i would be interested in knowing how she did it. thanks

thanks for the welcome, madison. if two inches is enough for new growth then these things are coming out in a month. if you dont mind me asking why did you decide to cut yours off? for me, i am sick of them. i have had them for over 7 years but the longer they grow the thinner they get and i dont think very thin locks are attractive. i am saving some money so i can go to a good braider. i hope she does not try and charge me no 95 bucks though

o.k. here is her response:

hi, tara!

yes i did take out my locks; and thanks for the kind words about this obsessive folly in particular and my album in general. sure you can post the link, and i'll see what i can do about 'instructions' although basically it was just this: spend a month with a pushpin and a bottle of conditioner, developing a million tiny pinpricks on your fingertips and wearing lots of headwraps.

ok, for real... let me think back. tips for unraveling locks.

i started by 'cleaning' out the ends of some of the locks in the back where i could see lint. i was doing this on almost-dry, freshly washed hair.

when i decided to try to see if i could undo one to its root; i saturated it with conditioner and pulled it apart with my fingers and the pushpin. my technique was basically insert pushpin near the end of lock, pick around, pull downward, pull out & discard the loosened hair, and repeat.

ad infinitum.

it's actually kind of a ridiculous endeavor in retrospect. i was and still am glad i did it; felt very triumphant and excited all through the process and afterward; i think i'd heard it could be done but i'd never known anyone to do it. but when i think about how much time it took, i am forced to consider myself a nut case.

there are a couple more recollections posted in my locks album at picturetrail; the password is "kinky"

please let me know the URL for the other board you're posting this on so i can stick my head in and maybe answer any direct questions that folks have. thanks a lot for asking first!

thanks so much for posting this. i still think i am going to cut them off though. i dont know if i have the patience for all that /images/graemlins/smile.gif thanks!

I don't know much about this but I know a girl who steamed her dreads out. I don't know if the hair locks tighter over time so the fact that she had her dreads for about 2 years may have made it a lot easier for her to steam the dreads out. I'm not sure about her exact technique but maybe you can research it online.
