I hear alot of people on the board who talk about taking vitamins but I don't know what each different vitamin suppose to do for the hair. Can you tell me what vitamins you take and what it suppose to do for your hair?

I take a Biotin supplement. Biotin supplements may improve thin, splitting, or brittle toe and fingernails as well as hair health. Biotin has also been used to combat alopecia (partial or complete loss of hair) in both children and adults. While there have been studies that suggest biotin does nothing to help with hair loss, I know from personal experience that my hair and nails grow stronger while taking it.

I also take flax seed. Personally, I take it for relief from constipation, help in preventing cancer, and to lower my risk of heart disease.

Additionally, I take a prenatal multivitamin. I'm anemic and in the next couple years I plan on starting a family so it was recommended by my GYN to switch from my regular multi to a prenate for the additional folic acid.

What does the flaxseed actually do? Its an oil isn't it? so is it moisturizing....

Hey loonatick -
Its very very moisturizing, and it softened my hair a great deal, even when i had bad ends from previous times, i feel it saved me from chopping off more then i needed to. it also encourages growth, have a look on line and you will see flax is associated with growth quite alot.

sorry I'm not much help theory wise, but having taken it, i would again, its just pricey! it works very quickly, ur skin will feel as tho you don't need to cream it up every day. ur hair roots will sparkle and the more oil to our hair the better! OH this is very good for those with scalp probs like me...talking about it, i feel flax is the best of the EFA supplements, Evening prim is great for my hair, but my scalp is STARVING lol.

well i'm hairy anyway, i lighten my side burns (shame) but they grew out very quickly - body hair was fine, it was the hair on my whole head that grew quick ie. eyebrows grew back quickly, sideburns and a lil fuzz on my top lip lol. thats why i alternate biotin, i take it for a month then stop for a month then on then off...

I been using biotin for a week and I haven't experience any breakouts, so far. Do anybody have some information on the different kinds of vitamins to use for your hair what it acutally suppose to do to make your hair healthier?

Doesn't biotin break you out?
I don't have breakouts with Biotin at all. The one supplement that I was taking that I noticed caused a change in my skin was Evening Primrose. I was taking that to even out my menstrual cycles though. It caused me to have excessive breakouts.

were you drinking a lot of water? and did you gain any length with the biotin?

I bumped a thread on Bargello's regime. It has a TON of info on vitamins. I would add the link here but I'm not qute sure how to do it. HTH~

I took Biotin when I first joined this site and gosh! i had such bad headaches! all day, everyday... i took it with the B-Complex and many ladies at the time reported that they would either get breakouts or headaches. I stopped taking it, or taking as much, just a month after beginning, so I have no idea how it helped.

Right now I only take a multivitamin. I decided to increase it two a day b/c I haven been eating healthy lately at all and my multivitamin has some low dosages. I've been wanting to take Lecithin for a long time but I never purchased it. Maybe I will. I"m interested in this Flaxsee now... but i'm already a hairy person and I dont want to turn into a wolf... my eyebrows already get crazy :look:

I'm guilty of not drinking enough water. Lately I've tried to be more conscientious about it, but typically, I only drink about half of what I should. I noticed that my new growth is a lot softer and more manageable, but I don't know if that's from the flaxseed or the biotin.
