Viewing hair length: This board vs. "out there"...in the real world

Okay...

I did a late run to the Dominican Salon....so I wound up being the last one there...cool.

This woman, comes to the door...I guess she was hoping she could sneak in getting something done to her hair...but it was like 8:45 pm already.

She knows the stylists and starts chatting with them. I'm getting my hair wrapped, the stylist is doing the whole circling thing with my brush....

the woman is clocking me and comes out and says..."I'll be glad when my hair gets long like that..."

So I ask my stylist who is she talking about, I'm like she can't mean me because my hair is far from it...

For some reason, maybe because I was hungry...and she still was looking at me in the mirror....I verbalized it...I'm like "My hair isn't long." Now the stylists and helpers in the shop are looking. I can't seem to stop my mouth.

"I know a bunch of people who's hair is waaaaaaay longer than mine - I have a long way to go. No, my hair is not long, I feel bald headed most of the time. But thank you for thinking so though."

They are looking at me like I had just finished cussin. My brain tells me to shut up. I think I must've said that ish real funky.

It's still quiet for a bit. I continue to hand my bobby pins to my stylist.

Everybody starts to talk again.

Mo's back to being halfway relaxed.

*sigh*

The standard of this board makes me forget how some people actually see hair "out there" in the real world.

That was my mini-hair moment...needed to share.

Please feel free to share your This board vs. "out there" in the real world hair moment.

*puts some wine and plastic cups on the table cause I obviously need to chill the heyall out...*

I think by "out there" standards your hair is long. Plus it's full and healthy looking (root to tip). Even by "in here" standards your hair looks great. I can understand why they were giving you the look.

I can see why they were saying that. You hair looks very healthy, has a nice cut, and is shiny. That is way better than some heads out there. So, now you need to stop talking trash about your hair and accept the fact that it is beautiful and people are going to be admiring it. K?

Your hair looks terrific.

I do understand the deceiving photo viewpoint though....I experience that quite a bit myself...

I got one for ya. look at my sig. that's how my hair was yesterday. My mom grab my hair thinking it was fake. when i picked my daughter up from school she whispered to me "mommy is that your real hair because you always have fake hair". My brother look at me and said you never got a weave before but it looks nice. MY hair had a mine of its own yesterday. I'm happy with it but it's not long to me because of LHCF. I"m happy everyone else thinks it's long though. I can't wait to see their faces when i hit BSL or close to it by thanksgiving.

Yup, Hypnose is my ish....
I stay stocked with that like I do NTM and White Rain...I get nervous when both run low.

I usually don't post on stuff like this....but that was one of the most awkward hair salon moments I've had in a very long time. I think that I sounded hostile...but I think that was coming from hunger from running around all day.

And dang...she was clocking so doggone hard [does she not know the rule of glance, then look away...glance, look away?? - and to share your comments with others outside the salon...don't be verbalizing out loud]....I guess I couldn't hold it in.

Precious_1 you know I try so hard to act right being a PJ (Yes, make up too) but this is really that good. I saw the Definicils on the net when I got home today. I was sending the link to a friend. You are going to love it I just know.

Yes!! It's like my BSL is shorter than everyone else's. I know what you are saying by not wanting to seem ungrateful and I don't think it's that in either of our cases, but dang I just feel like it is *SO* short sometimes. Especially when I see Cam's hair.

Very interesting thread. I don't see my hair as being "long".I may seem crazy when I tell people that. I guess that's why I have a hard time understanding why when I go to salons I get charged a long hair fee.

Yes, i believe that is it, i will be purchasing some this week, i can only attest to the definicils it works great, but what Letitia and Mona says goes with me. U better get you some

Before I cut my hair, one day I went to the BSS with my sister to get a wig. Well I had my hair put up and the lady (a really sweet hella funny Asian lady) came up to help me with my wig cap and when I took my clip out she goes Oh your hair is long!!! I just half smiled but I was thinking "uhhhhh how bout noooooooo."

I think APL hair is long, period, on this board and in real life no matter if person is Black. I studied some heads of hair in class one day, and came to that conclusion. If you can flip the hair over your shoulder it's long Now I still have SL hair, so I don't know if I'm going to go through hair anorexia or not, but as of right now I think I would be pretty ecstatic with APL hair, and if my hair never got longer than bsl, well I would die more than satisfied with my hair journey.

Before getting braids the first time I needed to have consultation with the salon owner. As soon as I walked in she RAN over to me and said "Is that all your hair!"

I'd just cut off 4 inches which around here is like shaving your head bald so I relished the complement.

But on the real, I am thankful for the present state of my hair. I think about how it was a few years ago and I feel like I've come a long way -
and like Seni said...there should be the feeling of being grateful and I am.

I don't know why that lil commentary in the salon threw me off...I guess because I had already been feeling some kind of way...down in the dark, deep hair recesses of my mind...

One is on this board all the time...and I see heads like my goddess Mochamadness, my girls Sylver and Babygurl, KiniKakes, the fine-haired idol, I'm checking Letitia, another goddess, TSmith pulling up behind, Navs, GlamourGirl...mad others...including SENI...one's head could spin at all the long haired ladies on this board.

and hells yeah...I beez (yes, beez) feelin mad bald headed.

I know it is silly, trivial and there are far more pressing things to be thinking about....

I just don't feel I'm there yet length wise for folks to be clocking and commenting in the Dominican salon.

But, I will remember in the future, should a similar scenario ever occur again - I will remember Seni's words, and politely say "Thank you" and shut my dayum mouth. Also remembering to be appreciative of where my hair is now because it wasn't always this way.

I am totally feeling this post lol. Every time I send my family a picture (now that I'm out of state) my mom and sisters are always talking about how long my hair is now. I feel like once I make close to BSL than that will be long for me.
