Verdict on Mizani Thermasmooth

So...this product line works wonders. However, it is a waste of money unless you are going to blow dry and then flat iron.

I did a pre-poo with EVOO and Tea Tree Cholesterol conditioner, followed by Pantene Pro-V's clarifying shampoo, to make sure my hair was free of other products.

I then followed all the Thermasmooth instructions, but decided to rollerset instead of blowdry. My roots were not smooth. So, then I had to blow my roots out, which ended up in my blowing out my whole head since my hair is too short to just put heat on the roots. Needless to say, at the end of this step, my roots were kinda smooth, but they would have been a lot smoother if I had just blow-dried in the first place.

I then applied avocado butter to my ends, and rubbed a little Biosilk Silk therapy through my hair and wrapped it.

This morning, I applied the anti-humidity spray (which is made up of a lot of silicones and coconut-oil) and flat ironed on the lowest setting. Its raining today in New York, and my hair did not frizz on my way to work (!!!).

Although this system requires direct heat, the system is made of natural oils and heat protectants, so I don't think its doing damage to my hair by using heat. Especially since for the rest of the week I will just be wrapping/using magnetic rollers for lift.

If your hair CANNOT withstand heat whatsoever, I suggest not wasting your money on this system b/c it only really works with direct heat. My hair seems to love it though. Good luck!:p

Hummmm. Intertesting. Thanks for the review. I was actually thinking about getting this myself for my stretches. You are right, I do not see the point in using it if you still have to use heat to straighten out your NG.

It does a very good job at conditioning and smoothing the hair..however, it will not get your NG straight unless you blow dry. :cry3:

Optimal results are achieved by using some level of heat in a straightening manner directly afterwards. The name says it all: Therma = heat to achieve the smoothness. Airdrying is not as effective because dry memory "sets" it to a large extent.

In reference to the bolded. Isnt this counterproductive? The clarifying poo is essentially removing the beneficial properties of the pree-poo from your hair. What about clarifying first, then pre-pooing. Just wondering? Anyone care to chime in?

So then its safe/fine to use heat styling w/ this product line?

That's the whole point. It is not meant to be used for rollersets or other non-straight styles. It is a modern day press 'n curl product.

Glad to hear that it conditions well.

Will it work well with a blowdryer on low heat? I've used a blowdryer maybe 2-3 times in the last 2.5 years.

You should try the Thermastrength Style Serum? I use this with my roller sets and it's absolutely wonderful.

I only used this once and did not have the energy to flat iron all of my hair--just did some in the back for a length check. I did not like the shampoo at all, it made my hair feel hard, so I used my CON afterwards, then I used all of the rest of the products. I really liked the conditioner, the serum, etc. I hope to do a full flat-iron once I reach 18 months natural (in two months). I also plan to use the tips and additional products Balisi mentioned in another thread (Redken Smooth down conditioner, Redken Extreme Anti Snap leave in conditioner, Mizani Thermal Strengthening serum, Mizani Anti Humidity Spray and Shyne Spray).

Anyway, I didn't get incredible results because I didn't completely flat-iron. But I will say that it was so much easier to blow-dry my hair than usual, my hair was very responsive and it felt sooo soft. Usually when I blow dry my hair it fights me and has been known to break those comb attachments as well:look:. So I will say that the products make straightening easier.

ETA: I used the blow dryer on cool, low and high. Once I put it on high my hair straightened out really quickly and it felt really soft.

The last time I clarified my hair it was too hard by itself...so I did a pre-poo. It worked. :)
