I have had my share of hair drama just like any other sista, but in June 2005 after getting a relaxer I had a lot of breakage so I decided to give my hair a rest for awhile. In July 2005 I found LHCF while playing on the internet at work. :lachen: After attending my first LHCF meeting the ladies convinced me to wait awhile longer before getting my next relaxer. Well one month has turned into another month and now it has been 14 months since my last relaxer which has been a great accomplishment for me. Now I feel my hair is healthier.

With all of that being said I am going to vent now. Why is it that white people tell me now that my hair looks good, but my boyfriend wants to know what am I going to do with my BUSH! :swearing: I get more compliments from other nationalities about my hair than I do my own people. Why?!

Firstly, congrats on your progress!

Secondly, that's my question of the day as well. I've worn my natural hair out for the first time this week.... While the brothers barely glance, brothers of other races/ethnicities stare. in. awe!

I think the staring in general is maybe because with the natural hair, maybe my features are more pronounced. I think w/the brothers, a lot of them (not all) like the long flowing hair, thanks in part to the distored images and standards of beauty that have inundated our psyches for CENTURIES.

It's alright, though, because times they are a-changing! :)

I've seen this as well - it's realyl sad how brainwashed BLACK people are into thinking that our natural hair is ugly/shameful.
I went on a road trip with a few friends (one black woman, two white) and we started talking about hair - and they were SHOCKED that the hairstyle THEY thought was gorgeous and suited me nicely (a slightly messy twistout) would be looked at in HORROR by most black folks. It's really sad.

I agree, unfortunately that has been the case with our own race but like you said times are changing.

Yes it is terrible, I guess some are just caught up in Straight hair and not Natural hair, I haven't had any bad experinces even when I wear my Twa out it is growing and I am glad for that, I just get people always wanting to touch it and smell it since it smells good LOL!!

But O well, they will just have to get used to it.
