I have not been to my regular salon since my last relaxer in August 2007. I went in today thinking I would chop off a good bit to speed the process along. I could tell he wanted to know where I've been and if I was letting another sylist relax my hair. I go to the shampoo bowl and as his assistant puts the conditioner in she tells me I have a lot of newgrowth. I told her I was transitioning to natural. She then asked me what I was going to do once the relaxer was out. I told her I would probably flat iron once a month. She then asked me, "so...are you getting dreads?" I was like, "Huh...say what?" She asked me the same question again. I told her I was not...just wanted to be natural. I go to my stylist and he finally asked where I had been for the last few months. As he begins to detangle, he asked if I was growing out the relaxer. I told him yes and he just made this sigh and I know the face that goes with the sigh. I told him to just detangle, rollerset, and flat iron it. He says,"It is going to take more than a few rollers to straighten this out." After the hair dryer, the blowdryer, and the torch for a flat iron, I started wondering if I had lost my mind thinking I could transition. I have not had a problem doing my own hair the last few months. Why was it such a hassle for him? I was letting an Aveda Cosmetology student flat iron it and she's the one that suggested I go natural. I was all for it. I love my stylist, but is he just hating on me or is my hair not as manageable as I thought it was? Anybody else been through this during transition?
