VENT: Related to consecration/fasting

OMG! I just have to type this out.
My pastor urged us to start January out with a month of fasting, praying and consecration. Among other things, I have committed myself to do a Daniel Fast for the month (water, 100% fruit juices, fruits and vegetables and NO SUGAR). Actually, I started early on my own because I felt a strong need to do this and what better time than the present.

Ok. Every year my office has a holiday party. We were supposed to go to lunch before the holiday, but there was a major water main break in our building so our offices were closed. So today, everybody wants to up and go to lunch. Of course, this is not good for me and I tell them that they can go without me, I don't mind.

Of course I start getting 50-11 emails/calls, about why I can't go. I don't really want to go into the explanation, because really, it's none of anyone's business. Then I finally explain to them and they say "you can go and watch us eat.":ohwell::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

People these days. I am fuming! WOW. Thank you Lord for this consecration and fasting. Just by the amount of resistance that I have encountered in these first few days, I know that God is doing some magnificent things in my life.

Stop workin' yourself up into a frenzy, sweetie! It's ok... Don't expect carnal folk to understand spiritual things.

You made a choice not to go (definitely the BETTER choice) but maybe you could have started your fast a little later and then end a little later. I have done that sometimes.

At my church, my pastor begins the fast at 6 p.m. on New Year's Day...MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! And this happens EVERY YEAR! So, what if I have plans or plans have been made to celebrate my birthday? Some years I have started the fast on time or I move it to a little later and then I come off the fast a little later....

The Bible talks about when we're fasting: Matt 6:16-18

"16Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly."

In other words, we still kind of do what we have to do or what is wise, best, without necessarily drawing attention to our consecration. But you're ok, hon. You're fine. Go calm yourself, maybe take a few moments and pray and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you, then go on in your consecration and walk in victory!

Thanks RR for responding.
I am TOTALLY fasting using the Daniel guidelines. And this work thing was last minute. So timing wasn't really the issue. Thanks so much for reading my thread.

Yeah girl it seems like whenever you make time to fast, that's when folks want to bring in donuts, or order pizza and stuff. I just rebuke the devil and keep on going. I am already preparing myself for the attacks when I began mine in a few days. I going to make sure I have something to eat here to avoid people trying to push food off on me. I will pray that the Lord gives you strength during this time. Q

It was test and you pass. When fast and pray we must expect the unexpected and learn how to handle it. This situation will help you something ahead and yes God has something great in store. He always test us before great blessing. You do not want hear some my stories but only by the grace of God I made it.

Oh, yes. I definitely want to hear some stories. I began this early because I was so disgusted with myself and my habits, too much junk, too much laziness, just uuugggh. I know that I am following God's leading. Today I woke up so refreshed and ready to begin a new day in the Lord. The hunger is GONE! Yesterday after work I had some running around to do and the kids got hungry. They ate Burger King and I didn't have one thing. I was so proud of myself. Thank you GOD!

When others start to comment on your strange behaviour and think youre nutso, thats how you know youre on the right path lol. They may not understand why, but don't pay attention to their tempting and disregard...they're just being instruments of Satan...they dont know what theyre doing
