Using S-curl right before relaxer

Hello everyone!
Does anyone use S-curl or WOC right before getting a touch up? I just wanted to know if it's all right to use this so close or right after getting a touch up.

Thanks in advance

i use it whenever i'm close to getting a relaxer up to the next day even it has not caused any damage for me my hair is shoulder length and healthy.

i also use it right before my retouch, even day of. i know some people worry about it interfering with the relaxing process, but it hasn't been a problem for me.

Adrienne:

I have a question for you? I just washed my hair last night and I'm scheduled for a touch-up this Saturday. For some reason, alot of my hair fell out last night and I'm trying to figure out what may have caused it.

I was going to do the conditioner wash, but decided against it because my hair was really dirty (hasn't been washed since last Wednesday, and I usually don't wait that long).

I noticed that my hair was so tangled and this caused the breakage. I didn't do anything differently last night and I'm guessing that this happened because my hair is in dire need of a touch-up and no amount of moisturizing was going to prevent brittleness.

What do you think?

marabou1,
I think you're right. I did a hot oil treatment. I washed with Creme of Nature, and I conditioned my hair. I used plenty of detangler, oil and everything else when I did my comb out, and my hair was doing good (no breaking or anything), until I had to combat those tangles and stubborn new growth matted with relaxed hair (2 1/2-4 inches????). I was tempted to cut all my hair off (it took me almost 2 hours to detangle my hair and put 7 big rollers in my hair to straighten it out), and it's getting pretty long. I tell you what, I will be going to get my hair touched up this weekend. For my type of hair, 18 weeks is TOO long. Never again! From now on, I will be relaxing every 8-12 weeks. Never again!!!!!!!1

marabou, i don't know if you've been doing them for a while now, but i think i would have done the conditioner wash if that's what your hair is used to. when you have alot of new growth, i think it's particularly beneficial to the hair. i tell you if i didn't have psoriasis, i know i would be doing conditioner washes the majority of the time.

brownie, i don't think that everyone can wait for extended periods to get retouches. in fact, i think 12 weeks is a good amount of time itself. i remember the last time, i waited six months. i definitely regretted it because of the increased shedding during combout. i'm waiting 5 months this time to get back on my regular schedule, but i think that's my limit. also, the longer i wait, the less i wear my hair down. how about you? and what is your hair type?

leneer, i use S-Curl No Drip Activator. here's the bottle:

Hi Adrienne: /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Thanks for answering my question. I think you are right, I should have done the conditioner wash. I've never tried it before, but I will in the near future.

Brownie:
It may have been the shampoo was too harsh considering it's time for a touch-up, but last night, I also remembered that my hair hasn't shed for a long, long time, and that could be it too.

Adrienne:
I forgot to tell you that I washed my friends hair last weekend (the one who I think has Psoriasis) with Neutrogena's T-Gel and we were both in shock. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif There was only just a few specks of dandruff in the front of her hair as I roller set it. She could not believe it worked. The only thing was that her hair was a little on the dry side.

Thanks again. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Adrienne,
I haven't worn my hair down in a long time. I've probably only worn it down once since my last touch up. I think I've only used heat once during that time also. My hair type--I think it's somewhere in the 3's because when it was natural, it always went bone straight when I washed it and then it REALLY curled up and got puffy as it dried.
I just really learned my lesson this time. My hair can't go five months right now. Like I said, next time, I'll just go 8-10 (maybe 12) weeks.
I was also wondering if extra virgin olive oil fine to use before a touch up? Are Petroleum products or jelly the only no no's that could cause a relaxer not to work?

marabou,
i've used the T-Gel in the past. my scalp laughed at that stuff. i'm glad it worked for your friend though. did you use a leave-in before doing the roller set? a creamy leave-in before the setting lotion would probably do the trick!

brownie,
i'm not sure if the olive oil would work or not. i don't know that Vaseline really keeps a relaxer from working as much as temporarily protecting the scalp and hairline while applying to the hair. i now try to use products specifically for this purpose rather than petroleum products. i have the Elucence one. i can't recall the name right now.
