So I am looking for something that mega seals and I was wondering if anyone here used unpetroleum jelly and if it had any benefits to your hair. I am looking to make this and try it if I get some good feedback from you all.

I prefer lighter oils for hair, but I like unpetroleum or my homemade version of it for skin esp. in the winter. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for hair though as long as you aren't too heavy handed with it. You'd also have to make sure you use a clarifying shampoo regularly to prevent buildup.

Someone on here uses it to seal because the first I heard of it was on LHCF. I think Crisco will probably have the same effect and it's easily available to boot.

How often do you think I would have to clarify? I only clarify every 6-8 weeks now.

greenandchic uses it alot. I tried to use it on my face but it caused acne. I like using it on legs and feet. It comes in a small tube so to try and protect your strands using the CC method could cause your hair to be greasy and weighed down. JMO.

Un-petroleum Jelly is the original, multi-purpose skin moisturizer and protectant made from only pure plant oils and all natural waxes. Use daily to: Moisturize and soothe dry skin Prevent chafing and windburn Gently remove eye make-up Help protect baby from diaper rash

I've used it on my hair after blending it with lighter oils or in a butter. I only used it on my ends only and it helped prevent dryness.

I have 2 jars of the babyganics unpetroleum which I picked up from Walgreen. It was bogo :yay: I haven't used it consistently because I am trying to get rid of this shea butter.

Bublin started a thread last year where this came up. Some people seal their entire strand and some just their ends. I intend to mix mine with a lighter oil just to make it easier to apply.

I keep telling @qchelle, but she won't listen!! I even sent her a coupon to order it for free!! :whyme: Lawd, lawd...

:lol: I noooo. I just don't like to get hooked on stuff that I have to order offline. I wanna wait until I'm near a Whole Foods to get it. Ok, I'm gonna try to remember when I go home next weekend. I really want to try it!

The coupon was enough to buy 3 tubes! :whyme:

Sent from my Inspire HD using LHCF

I used it for about a year and half and stopped once I realized that beeswax in unpetroleum jelly was making my hair loc up. To be fair, I was using it on the entire length of my hair and not clarifying often if ever, just co-washing. I should have known better to use it at all, though. I've used melted beeswax to make my own natural skin products and it is a BEAST to clean off of pots or pans. Even dish soap and hella hot water wasn't removing it! I will never return to using UP but if I were to return to using UJ, I would not use it on the length of my hair, just the ends, and clarify often, like every other week to get the product out.

HTH!

I started using it a year ago to seal my ends when I braid it under a half wig. I use chicoro's triple moisture method. I only use it on the ends. And it washes right out when I co wash. I love it .

faithVA here is a link to her website with the moisture method i use.

the way i do it:
1. spritz my hair with chi keratin mist (my hair loves protein) or shea moisture mist

2. apply creamy moisturizer -right now i am using Hairveda's Busy Izzie's Buttered Up and seal the length of the hair with hot six oil

3. apply unpetroleum jelly to mostly the ends of the braids.

this has helped my retention alot! i am a slow grower so i cherish each and every inch.
