(Unofficial) Bi-Weekly Wash Challenge? Buddies Needed for Moral Support!

This is a bit of a spinoff from my low manipulation post, another frequency-wash poll, and my epiphany that, even with all the great products and techniques I use, my fine hair loves it best when I just leave it alone. Tomorrow (Friday) would be my usual wash day, as it has been a week. I'm going to try my best to stretch for another week (incidentally, just in time for my QVC Ojon kit to arrive :lachen:).

For this week, I'm practicing a 'state of rest.' In which I will put my hair into a French roll and not comb it--at all. I will moisturize and seal, roll up my hair every morning and/or night and only brush up the sides so it looks neat. But! I am so compulsive about my hair, I could really use some support. I used to practice this very thing, and had the longest hair of my life (this was back when I was addicted to my hairdresser and had to stretch for practical reasons. My hair was about one inch from MBL back then--it shocked MANY.)

Anyone else want to skip a week with me and not wash? If it works out, I'd like to start with a group of buddies that will start at 0 the following Friday by washing, and then not washing again for two weeks thereafter. Any takers?

In your thread title it says Bi-Monthly which I thought means every other month but in the thread you are saying every other week or am I wrong?

I would do it with you but I am on a 30 daily co-wash, mini challenge.

I would be happy to do it with you next month if this does not work.

Sorry, by "bi-monthly," I meant, every two weeks, not every other month. I think I might bore a hole in my head from scratching if I ever waiting that long!

I can't survive this summer heat w/ a dry head. I co-wash some days just to stay cool. I hope you get some LHCF ladies to try this with you.

Dog gone, I would be a mess if I didn't wash my hair at least every 3 days especially when I'm working out. I hear what you are saying though. Low-mani is the way to go if you can pull it off...I can't.

I'll do it with you. Since my BKT, I was thinking about only washing once a month. When would we start? I'm lazy, so...LETS DO IT! I will use my Ojon too. :yep:

Yay! Well, I'm letting my hair "rest" until next Friday, and then I'm going to wash again (it has been a week so far that I haven't washed). I'm going to see how this goes and measure how much length I have retained.

Ok. I just washed Monday. So, I can wait till next Friday. Do you think you will have your Ojon by then? Because of my job, I wear protective styles. We will be at our goals in no time. :yay: And YEAH, you are my first friend, I am so excited!

My Ojon is expected to arrive by June 1. My goal is APL--what's yours?

Seeing that you are a natural, how do you have second day hair without frequent washing?

I don't know if it is because my hair is porous or because it is coarse, but if I try to go more than two days without washing my hair, my hair gets really angry. I would like to be able to wash every other week because I do believe low manip is key. I just need to know how to keep my hair happy during that time.

My goal is Below BS/MBL, which in my case is basically the same thing. I am BSB (Below Shoulder Blade) now. Are you refraining from heat and wear protective styles daily as well?:scratchch

I'm natural, but I flat iron my hair straight. If I keep it curly, yes, I have to wet it constantly. The problem with that is the frequent manipulation just causes my hair to snap, snap, snap. I only flat iron on wash days until the next time--hopefully, now every two weeks.

I am refraining from heat (except for wash days). For the first week I wear a curly style and roll my hair at night. I comb only when I roll with a very wide tooth comb. The second week, it's all about protective styles because by that time, I believe my hair is more vulnerable to breakage because it is 'dirtier', so I won't comb at all. Just bun or pony tail, brush the sides lately with a gentle boar's hair brush but that's it.

Here's how I wear my hair after I wash and curl:

I'll join you on this challenge. I was transitioning to natural, but I'm going to keep texlaxing instead. I like the versitility of texlaxed hair better. So I'm gonna wash my hair every other week to cut down on manipulation.

My NG takes on a life of it own after a day without cowashing, so I can't participate. Please keep us posted on how this works for you.

So you're not doing the weekly heat thing anymore Christelyn?

Nope...I'm adapting it to bi-weekly. Remember I said I would try it to see if the heat would be too much? Well, it turns out that it's not the heat--it's my darn fingers in my hair. I compared breakage the I got from roller setting, twisting, etc., and I actually got more breakage from the tangles. The flat iron smoothes my hair and keeps my fine hair from tangling in on itself. But my major change is to integrate a one-week rest period in between flat ironing.

That's why I love LHCF--you guys keep tabs on progress!

My flat iron regimen is washing every two weeks. I've been doing that since even before hair boards. I do it to cut down on heat and manipulation and I wouldn't do it any other way....it works great. I hardly ever wear my hair straight anymore so heat isn't an issue. I wash weekly now (still low-mani) but if I ever start straightening again it will be every 2 weeks.

Good luck on your challenge.

That makes sense to me. I keep my hair in celie braids under my wig because most other stuff is too much manipulation. The braids keep my hair stretched out, I can do everything in them, and I can keep them in for a while.

Way before hair boards when I used to press/flat iron, it was at the most every 2 weeks, but usually once a month (I only washed once a month then). IMO, that was low-mani for my head because after I got my hair straightened I wrapped every night and that was it. I only used a wide tooth comb, never had tangles, and retained length. The only thing I was missing was DCing and heat protectant LOL.

I'm glad you figured out what was causing your issues. Washing biweekly is fine I think. I'm used to water on my scalp now but I did it for most of my life with no problems.
