Uneven ends and box braids

I'm trying to do box braids with my own hair (4b natural) for the third time and I'm remembering why every time I've done them in the past I take them out after an hour.

My UNEVEN ENDS!

They look terrible. I've tried curling them in the past but they fall weirdly after that. Any suggestions? I'm about to take out the half of my hair that I finished and put in some twists again (ugh).:wallbash:

Erm...if all the strands of your hair are the same length all around, and if your braids are not long, then they will not fall all to the same level and it can seem weird if you've got say BlackMasterpiece's hair in mind or some other person whose hair you've seen appearing to fall to the same length. My twists did not fall to the same length, and since I have very fine hair that doesn't look full, I didn't like how they looked down. So I wore them in styles that looked good to me.

You don't have to wear your braids down. Sonce had a beautiful bun created from big box braids, that I dream of doing one day.

I think the reason you don't like how your braids look is you're going into the do with another look in mind instead of just letting your hair show you what it can do. Maybe you can try updos...And I bet as your hair gets longer so that the difference in length between the highest hair and lowest isn't so obvious, you will come to appreciate it.

I agree w/ Nonie. For the boxbraids to look even, the crown, bangs, nape and sides have to be at different lengths meaning the top/crown has to be longer than the nape so the they will fall down even when braided.

I agree with nonie as well. If the hair is uneven it will look uneven in braids, twists, straight or way it's styled down. Try wearing your braids in a protective style. I wear box braids 90% of the time and since I'm CBL I wear them up in a bun, puff, banana clip or a bunch of Bobby pins.

My hair is the same length all the way around b/c I'm growing out a TWA. Therefore my longest layer is CBL and the shortest is nose length. At this grow out stage my hair definitely looks better up. (I have some pics in the Braid Challenge folder of my fotki.)
