Ladies, I have recently given my life to the lord and need help. As much as I try, I don't understand the Bible the way I want to. Where do I start? How do I learn? I am so hungry for what is to come walking in the path of Righteousness and I want to minister to others but I feel like i'm falling short. What do I do? When I pray, how do I pray properly? Right now, i feel like i'm just having conversations and missing out. Sorry y'all, I really want to stay on the right path. I no longer listen to JUNK on the radio- instead I listen to gospel and praise and worship. I pray now for everything!!! I tithe better ( no more toonies and lonies (change), i'm talking proper tithing). When will I GET IT?????? Am I not doing something...please help!

Welcome to the Family, Determine3

The first thing to remember in your walk with the Lord, is 'Never, ever, ever, give up.' For you will have challenges, but none of them will out number the blessings and the measure of Love that God has for you. So, no matter what comes along in life, hold on to the loving arms of Jesus and stay there with every care.

Don't worry about understanding the Bible, just keep reading, for the more you read, the more you will understand. It's a process, that's all. Each day, just ask the Lord to 'lead you' or ask, "Father, please give me a word for today." He will. Make note of it and then meditate upon that word, until you feel what God is speaking to you.

There are several Bible translations. This website allows you to read Bible scriptures in several formats which help give you a better understanding of what is being said.

When you don't understand what something means, just create a post here and someone will respond.

Another way to grow closer to the Lord is by having a Devotional book. There are many, but there are also online devotionals which are very helpful and many can be delivered to your email address each day.

My personal favorites are:

www.theupperroom.com
www.dailyword.com
www.rbc.org
http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/devarchive.aspx?ARCHIVEID=TODAY

An excellent bood to have in your library is "The Purpose Driven Life", by Rich Warren. It's filled with so much encouragement and there are several other books in his 'purpose' series, such a journal, devotional and other materials. The website is www.purposedrivenlife.com. Here are reading materials: http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/category.aspx?SID=1&Category_ID=68

Another way is listening to 'worship music' each day and to Christian radio programs. I totally recommend these programs:

Focus on the Family (Dr. James Dobson) www.family.org
Family Life Today (Bob Rainey) www.fltoday.org
Turning Point (Dr. David Jeremiah) www.turningpointonline.org)
CBN (The 700 Club - Pat Robertson) www.cbn.com

I don't want to overwhelm you with too much. But know that we are always here for you.

God bless you, for truly God has added another precious and beautiful flower of life to His garden. He's added you. ;)

Wow Shimmie, THANK-YOU!!!!! All the details and links are exactly what I need. It's weird, I always thought there would be a TA-DA moment when I became saved and I would just know it all:lol: .

Shimmie, can I share something with you? Yesterday, after I posted this thread and read a few threads in the Christian forum that I thought were beneficial to me, I fell asleep for a few hours. Do you know that I had a dream that you gave me advice???? You are truly a God send to this forum. Thanks again!

OH!! That's how God works! Shimmie is really a God send. I can't even begin to explain how God has used this woman to bless me in the short time that we've known each other! :D

If you want free materials, call this ministry http://www.rbthieme.org/

They will send you 2 boxes of cassettes or one cd with about 30 hour or so long mp3s.You can reorder every few weeks or so. The have tons of tapes, and books too. They NEVER ask for a donation, but you are free to give one if you like. These are recordings from the 50's and 60's on, but Gods word doesnt change. It's also interesting when events occuring at the time slip into it, like a political figure getting shot, or sports.

:lick: :lick: :lick: This is yummy information:D

I was just talking to a coworker about this, I know that I am supposed to pray and ask God to let me understand the word, but I have found myself gettting lost and losing focus. I think I will try to find a version that is in the "everyday" language that I use on a daily basis. I love the RBC devotional website.

I got into the RBC daily devotions because I was walking around one day in my Kitchen and I almost slipped and fell on a pamphlet that was on the floor. Annoyed I reached down and picked it up and said to myself "look at this mess" I was about to throw it in the trash but instead I read it...it was so relevant and powerful I figured God must have had a reason for me to slip and pick this pamphlet up, I have been reading them off and on since then:grin:

O' My Goodness  Jesus told on me..... He gave me away and told you what I was doing. ;)

Hello again Angel. ;) It was really the Lord speaking to me as I was typing; for I asked Him first, what should I share with you. I'm so honored that He could use me to be a blessing to you. Isn't He wonderful and so loving?

But guess what's going on here? You are learning God's voice. God speaks to us in our dreams. And you little angel are starting a wonderful journey with Him...one on one communication. Look what His word says,

In Psalm 16:7 & 8

I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

In your dreams, you are being loved on by God. He is speaking to you (even telling on me :look:).

You asked for understanding the word of God. This is it, God speaks to you, even in your sleep. You are so well on the right path. God has heard the desire of your heart...to understand Him. Your desire to know Him, pleased Him so much, that He met you 'while you were sleeping....your dream that He proved to be true.

Here's another confirmation of how God is easing you into understanding Him. May I share a gift from Him with you?

Mark 4:22

"For there is nothing hid which shall not be manifested; neither is anything kept secret, but that it should come abroad."

God will not keep you unaware. Ummm, He did tell you about me in your dream, did He not? Determine3, God is keeping you clued in. :yep: even in your sleep. ;)

Start your "Dream Journal". God reveals and answers much to us in our dreams. Keep a journal of your dreams; name and date them. You'll be surprised of how many precious moments you and Jesus will share. Many, many, many.

This dream is all about you and Him...one on one. Wow! ;)

Blessings to you, angel. ;)

For you angel, God did the following just for you...;)

Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. (Job 4:4)

BTW: Your knees aren't 'feeble' :nono: ...but He allowed you to stumble upon His word to uphold you, love you and protect you.
