Underprocessed hair/need a corrective

I mentioned this before but my hair is very underprocessed since I started self relaxing in sept. As a result my hair has broken off on the bottom of my hair on the left side. I guess because my hair is shedding.

Im going to go to a professional to get a corrective. If anyone knows of any good salons in the columbus, Ohio area I would appreciate it.

Anyways I have a question. To those with underprocesed hair how did you manage it daily? my hair is so hard to comb out in the back. Do you think if i spritze it with water and a conditioner daily that would help and just wear a pony tail? I would appreciate any tips.

Should I comb my hair?

Im thinking about washing and deep conditioning on Sundays and doing a condition wash on Wednesdays. I dunno.

Also what steps did they do to correct your hair. Did they just correct the underprocessed hair and then tell you to come back to relax the newgrowth?

I have not gotten a corrective yet so I cannot answer those questions, but:

To those with underprocesed hair how did you manage it daily? I dry set my hair with satin covered foam rollers. I only use a few just to keep a little curl. I lay down some of the sections (bangs, top, etc) and then tie it all down with a satin scarf. I secure that with a bandanna or something so it won't fall off at night. In the morning I finger comb. If I do need to comb, section my hair and then hold the sections near the roots and only gently comb the straight sections. I just don't let the comb go down to the under-processed and new hair (except on shampoo days after flatironing). I think this is the same/similar combing method mentioned on the Crown and Glory site. Keeping it curly helps me deal with it better.

Spraying my hair with water would make it worse, but I think that is just because of the way I wear my hair. If you wear it up in a pony, that may work. But I would not personally use water and conditioner I would just use a moisturizer, most likely.

Should I comb my hair? I do. I just do it the way I mentioned. Even after flatironing when I also have lots of new growth, I still cannot freely comb on shampoo days.

I shampoo and condition my hair twice a week. MOISTURE is the most helpful part of this struggle for me. I flatiron my hair which helps bigtime. I flatiron it on shampoo/condition days and that last me until I wash again. My roots do start getting thicker again each day after flat-ironing but tying my hair down nightly really helps a lot.

Over all, dealing with my underprocessed hair has not been all that bad, but I have been doing it for a long time.

I was underprocessed also for awhile. I couldn't take it anymore so. I bought ORS lye relaxer and relaxed my whole head again. This was last Sunday 3/11. The relaxer that underprocessed was done this past November and it had been a year since I had a relaxer. I had a lot of new growth with the relaxer I did last Sunday, but I was afraid to relax the length of my hair because I thought it would fall out. So far so good. I bombarded my hair with protein, reconstructers and moisture to stop my hair from even thinking about falling out. I haven't used any heat, just rollersets and twist outs. I hope this helps.

thanks!
yeah i was thinking maybe combing it out everyday might have broken it off and made it shed more.
I guess ill finger comb my hair until my hair is corrected/straight.

what kind of moisturizers do you use?

I think im going to lay off flat ironing andheat period until its straight. I know that even if i flat iron the back pieces its still nappy . I guess its very underprocessed. I used to could flat iron with no problem and have a nice roller set.

I wish it was only one section. My whole back of my head is mostly underprocessed.

Well, I use Fermodyl 619 (not fermodyl interactives) ampoules and Sidr Tree Butter Balm together on my wet hair. I moisturize daily with Aveda Universal Styling Creme.

I agree with honeydew on the moisture thing. I wash twice a week too. I cross wrap at night so in the morning I just finger comb. I moisturize with BT on my scalp before I get in the shower. When I come out the steam from my shower really makes the oils soak in. Then I use ors olive oil cream on my really underprocessed parts and it makes combing a breeze. Also try using porosity control before you condition.
