Twist set instructions from Curve Salon

I think the prices are lil steep and I think peopel should take the time to learn how to do certian stuff with thier own hair. (Ex a simple plait, twist, cornrow, wash, deep condition, etc) Thats liek paying someone to brush your teethe for you. Too simple and way cheaper to not do it yourself.

Although prices are high, and you all can call me crazy (nothing new, lol) I will be returning for my trims/cuts as I feel comfortable and trust that Miko will not mess up or do a bad job. I'm willing to shell out the $$$ once every few months or so to have that comfort and trust in a hair dresser.

I think their prices are comparable to most high-end salons. Granted they are extremely high, but if you compare the prices to what some high-end salons charge, its about the same. I know when I was going through my color phase, I wanted a color specialist and the cost was very high and did not include the shampoo and style. Each service was separate...kind of like "a-la-carte" pricing. We can't be mad at them for charging what they charge because people are willing to pay it. Now, I'm pretty sure everyone here wants to be properly compensated on their jobs? What if your job told you that they thought that they were paying you too much? I get a little offended by this because we have a family-owned business, and everyday we get clients that complain about the prices when we are already priced well below the competition. I always tell them either you are going to pay here or just go somewhere else. You don't complain when you go to the grocery store and the prices are high, you just pay it. So, give the ladies a break and let them charge whatever they want and if you don't like it, just don't patronize them.

I'm sorry the prices are waay too high and for an $8 jar of perm...please don't tell me the application justifies $300. This is not a small business battle this is about str8 pimpin! Now if they charge about $200 for overall service I'd let them slide. But, home girlz are charging $$$ for the silkner and then $$$ for the cut and $$$$ for color....Gimme a flipin break!

I get my hair professionally colored,foiled, and deep conditioned at a white salon and upscale one for $85 and that includes the tip!

Yeah like someone said they can charge what they want and my black arse will stay out

They are getting folks--Those hairstyles are really not that great PLUS--if it were strictly about maintaining you hair you would really be out an arm and a leg.

Thanks. I didn't get what you meant by "you not knowing what exactly was applied" though. I've only gotten a hair cut and had some curly pudding slapped on, LOL.

IM sorry maybe if I didnt know how to do it Id pay for it ONCE just to see how they do it. But then Id try it myself. No one will ever pimp me out over a hiarcut. Besides the styles and stuff are nice but not $300 nice.... MAYBE $125 but for $300 I could get my hair braided twice and that would last me 4 months. Or maybe Im just being broke-minded Nothing that costs over $150 looks too good to me...

Well, personally, I don't feel "pimped"...I've had some bad experiences finding good stylist in my area...I'd rather dish it out at this point then keep chancing it with the unknown to save a few. I can however, completely understand others not feeling the same way. You do you...I don't think anyone who decides to spend the money on their services should be put down because you wouldn't. I have a good career, I'm single, no kids...I plan to go once in ever 3-4 months for a cut (my service was $250)...I was spending a min of $30 a week anyway when I was going to the salon weekly when I was relaxed so for me it nets out.

I feel pimped when I spend money for anything over a certain amount. Ask me how long Ive needed a new muffler I refuse to pay $180 for a new muffler! I told the guy straight up "Your tryna pimp me!" And walked straight out. Im a Walmart typa girl. Im used to "LOW LOW PRICES" and that flying smiley face that knocks the prices down. If you can afford it then great and by the way it does look good on you but for simple stuff like twisting Id do it myself. Cutting... I dunno. I might end up looking a plum mess if I did it myself. For that I might pay once or twice just to observe the technique but other than that Ima 'do-it-myself-for free' typa girl Now if I could only figure out how to put a muffler on....

ETA: I know what you mean about having bad stylists. Thats why I do my own hair. That way I cant blame anyone but myself. Thats how I learned so much about my hair now. Mistakes are nothign but lessons in disguise.

LOL, I got ya, thought you were coming at me and I was being defensive. I would only recommend the salon for "serious" services, cutting and chemical applications. Other than that, I would NOT go for basic styling.

If I had time and patience, especially patience for mistakes, I'd probably take my time to teach myself these things. Unfortunately, the lazy bug hit me a few years ago, lol.

The duct tape melted and caused a mess... Now crazy glue huh? You know Ima try it right? For real!

I found a guy (reputable) that says he can put it on for $25 but now I gotta find a plce to buy the muffler from. The dealership told me $100 YEAH RIGHT! If Walmart aint got one Ima have to do some calling around but mark my word I refuse to pay over $50 for a muffler!

Also I feel ya on the lazy. I et so bad sometimes! I went all alst week without combing my hair. The same ponytail turnined into a puff and finally a bun because the band unwrapped some kinda way Ima work on the laziness though

Once the style is complete, how do you maintain it and moisturize it for the rest of the week without messing up the curls? What about when exercising?

ITA! I would not pay it on a regular, maybe a once a year treat but that is just me. Fortunately for me I know how to do my own twists, twist-outs, coils,etc. So there is no need for me to be in anyone's shop unless I am getting a trim or color.

Nevertheless as I have said I cannot be mad at them for what they charge. Heck, Jonathan from "Blow Out" charges what.. $300-400 for a haircut?? I am sure that if you went into some other establishments in NY there prices are comparable. Why should *I* be upset with them over their prices because I cannot afford it? I think Coach and Dooney & Burke purses are overpriced. But you best believe there are a gang of woman carrying them.

I've never been to Curve, and they don't really do anything that you couldn't do yourself or at another salon. However, I can see how it might be worth it to pay that much just for the peace of mind that they will not jack your hair up. It's so hard to find good people to do natural hair. Hopefully, there will be more natural hair stylists putting out a shingle who will add more competition.

I've never been to Curve, and they don't really do anything that you couldn't do yourself or at another salon. However, I can see how it might be worth it to pay that much just for the peace of mind that they will not jack your hair up. It's so hard to find good people to do natural hair. Thats the only reason I can't justify the price. It would be different if they were doing some serious styling. I have no problems spendng money, but if I paid $100+ for some twists I'd feel like I flushed it down the toilet. I guess if you're stylistically challenged (is stylistically a word, it is now), and really like their work thats all the justification you need. I just can't see it.

Even with the shipping for "free" the prices went up because if you buy more than one product, you're paying more than you would before they changed the prices.

To me it doesn't matter where a person is located, it is all about the skill and experience that they are bringing to the table. Just because they are located in Brooklyn or Harlem doesn't mean that their prices have to go along with the neighborhood. Again, who would I be to say what they should be charging? They know what they are doing. They went right into an area where they were able to buy real estate at fairly decent price for NY. At the time they started this business they probably didn't have the funds to go set up right next to Louis Licari and all the other high ends. Or maybe they did and did not want to shell out all of that money.

Your right that folks perpetrate with the Dooney's and Coaches, but nobody says that they are being bamboozled or crazy for spending the money on that.

That's true because when I purchased the Pudding and the Meringue I only had to pay $10 dollars total for the shipping. Now there is an extra ten dollars figured into this.

Hey I didn't even want to pay fifty for twists. I went one time to get my hair twisted almost 4 years ago for my best friends wedding. Once I was able to see how it was done I started doing them myself.
