Okay, so here I am, walking across the metro parking lot thinking about my unexpected big chop 2 weeks ago, underneathe an umbrella of soft drizzle. I'm wondering, "gee, what am I going to do once I take these braids out next month." As I'm pondering the thought going down the escalator, a sister walks past me with fat pretty twists in her head. I think, "hmm, that's an idea." But, alas, I have a twa so that look won't work for months.
As I'm digging my smarttrip card out my purse, a lady is in front of me with a twa. An older woman, so her little gray hairs are coiling throughout. I think to myself, "now that's nice and neat. And she doesn't even have to worry about the rain. But I don't know if I can rock a twa." As I go down to the metro platform and take shelter under one of the covered stands, I walk into it faced by a woman with her natural 3a hair also in a twa, conversing with her friend, another natural with shoulder length hair that she's secured in a head band. It's not neat and picked out. Just free flowing and care free. I think to myself, "wow, all these natural people. I wonder if they were here all the time and I just didn't notice until I went natural. Interesting."
The train arrives and as I board looking for a place to sit, my eye catches another women, sporting BEAUTIFUL locs, crinkled, with an ambor/red color. Very pretty. I sit across from her and think, "wow, how creative. I would have never thought to add color." I look over to my left....(doesn't that sound like Tweets song? Okay, getting off subject), and the woman sitting next to me is sporting short twists. Fuzzy and fun. In the seat directly in front of me is another woman sporting a twa. A few rows ahead is a lady sporting twists, styled in a bob. Very full and neat. Next to her, another lady, looks about my age, with coils. They are streaked throughout with a goldish color (something else I would have never thought of) and they are OFF THE CHAIN. I think, "yeah!!! I can rock some coils until my twa grows out."
So, my stop comes and I get off to transfer downstairs to another train. The train comes and as I board, ANOTHER person is on with a not-so-twa. Picked out nice, neat, shiney. I spot a brother with natural cornrows. An older woman with completely gray locs hanging below her hat.
Locs, coils, afro's, twists, free flows....naturals, naturals, naturals, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Meet Nyeema, a 33 year old single mommy living in the dc metropolitan area. Ny has just decided to make one of the most biggest decisions in her life, unleashing the naturalism that's been hidden for years. She's nervous and excited all at the same time. She's already taken one big step, the big chop. She's now pondering next steps as she thinks about what the spring and summer time may bring. Is this hair experience too overwhelming? Is she becoming too consumed reading posts on the LHCF day in and day out? Is she obsessed with natural hair? Join me, as we take another walk in to................THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
