TWA -What to do for moisture in Winter??

So winter is approaching and I do not know what to do for my twa as far as moisture is concerned. For the summer I used glycerin based products and I know that is going to be a :nono: for the winter. I have already begun using my Qhemet Amla & Olive Heavy Cream. I use Vatika oil right after my cool rinse on wash/cleanse days and seal with the AOHC. I cleanse weekly with a mixture of bentonite clay. Also co-washing will be out of the question so I have begun just spritzing with water and adding moisture cream depending on how it feels. I deep condition once weekly (after I cleanse) with first Joico Reconstructor and then the Joico Intense Hydrator. This combo has done my hair well .I really do not want to emerge from winter with damage. I want thriving strands.

What other things can I do to ensure optimum growth, retention and health?

My hair type is 4a/b; coarse and thin ( thick strands, low density)

Thank you!

Hello Lionchaser

Last winter I had bad splitends from not moisturizing my hair correctly. (I wasnt moisturizing in sealing, just moisturizing.) I guess I can say I'am out of twa stage now after I trimmed the damaged ends off.
This winter I plan on using Sheamoisture curl enhancement smoothie on my ends and seal with vatika or amla oil, underneath a wig.

Hope I helped.

I can't go wrong with unrefined shea butter! :yep: It worked throughout my transition and now my natural hair. I also use pure aloe vera gel to give me some slip and define my curls.

I find that finger coils help a lot. I use a god amt of conditioner then seal with oil. I also use some shea on the ends and edges.

Baggy! I was worried about this too.especially because this new york weather has already been acting kinda retarded. Get you favorite moisturizer and baggy at night under your head wrap. Or whenever you feel like it. I baggy on my way to work.when I'm home doing nothing. when I'm running late for class. If you can come up with some good ways to wear your head wrap You can baggy all day and no one will even know. My hair is never dry now and is always soft to the touch.

I go for heavy creams and butters in the winter, even though we don't get terribly dry down here in the winter. I'm also planning on doing more protective styling with a goal of styling at least weekly to bi weekly. This will take a lot of discipline on my part, because I will throw my hair up in a puff in a heartbeat. When I PS, I typically don't have to remoisturize but every 3-4 days due to the amount of product I use on my hair. I need to go ahead and order that Qhemet's.

when it is really cold / dry I moisturize twice a day an ALWAYS seal in the moisture with oil. This works for me and I have no dry hair problems in the winter when I do this.

I drove myself crazy last year trying to find a good moisturizer that did not contain glycerin. I ended up finding some Elasta Qp Mango Moisturizer at a local BBS and then at a (what else) local Kroger. This worked really well for me. This year I have a couple of the Qhemet moisturizers also, so I should be set.

I would seal with a pomade (or a grease), on the ends in the winter time. Unrefined shea butter or the Oyin Burnt Sugar pomade sound like good alternatives. I also moisturize twice a day.
