She's talking to Andre now. He sez you don't need oil in the hair as long as the hair is healthy.

Thank you!!!! No oils or grease, huh?

I'm sure this will go over with some of the women on this site

I'm not with the 'no oil' notion. See, Oprah can do no oil because she has someone like Andre to care for her hair every single day. I guess if you wash the hair every day, and I'm guessing this is what she does, you can forego oil. But who the heck has time for that?!!

She also said that the no oil method allows your hair to move, & Andre said that using a flat iron will get the hair really straight. Someone in the audience voiced concerns about damaging her hair from heat, so Oprah said to get it done professionally.

Who the heck has time or money to get her hair done professionally every day, except Oprah?!! And who could you trust to flat iron your hair regularly? We know how trifling so many of these hair dressers are!!

Interesting - she said that she braids her hair in the summer!

Crysdon, she and Andre sounded very specific to me. I heard them say no oil on the hair.

They weren't keen on oiling the scalp either because it would cause the hair to become greasy.

Well, if you're not supposed to put oil on the hair, how do you keep it moisturized?

I don't grease my scalp but I DO put oil on my hair, especially my ends.

Like you, I don't really put any oil on my actual scalp now unless it's an itchy spot, but there's no way i can do the no oil on the hair thing ! Especially the ends !

No oil on the hair? I guess I'll have to find something else to do with my coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, apricot oil, castor oil, essential oils and hot six oils.

NOT!!!!

I think I'll pass on that bit of advice.

Ditto!

I think that she is taking it for granted that not everyone has an Andre at their beck and call. If I want my hair to stay on my head I have to oil the length, I only put my oil on my scalp if it is really itchy.

I don't believe that all oils weigh down the hair, mineral oil definetely weighs down hair but some of the oils out there are really very light. I have rollerset my hair with Africa's Best Herbal Oil and then wrapped and I have had great wonderous body.

Yeah I was a little skeptical when they were saying that if you want your hair to "move" you can't put oil in it. I know good and well you can get some nice body and volume using oil. I agree that HEAVY oils and GREASE will weigh your hair down, but a little coconut oil works great on my hair. And I recently acquired some Hot 6 Oil which also didn't weigh my hair down. So I guess it's still a case of "What works for one person..." Y'all know the rest

What would have been a classic is if one of you guys from the board was on the show and started replying to their comments on oils etc and spilling out all this great advice we now have.

I'd love to have seen Andre's (and Oprah's) reaction. Can you even IMAGINE if you mentioned s-curl, the baggie method or pre oil treatments?
