Tubshroom: Bathtub Drain Filter

Has anyone tried this product? I think I want to buy it. I'm curious as to how it would work in the kitchen sink (yep, I wash my hair there like old school )

I had previously used this

but after so much hair covered the filter, the tub/sink would start to fill with water.

Yes I bought fairly recently after declogging my tub. It really works much better than other hair strainers.

I have a flat one for my shower which works well. Probably got it from Amazon or Bed and Bath.

Need this for the bathroom sink. My sink was draining slow and I tried to loosen the the little stopper there so I could get under there and I broke it. But when I took it out the entire thing was gunked with hair! That's from me rinsing my hair after moisturizing, styling and whatnot. Now there's the hole and nothing to keep things from going down the drain. I need this.

I consider this last week when I had a new tub installed, but I decided against it because I don't want my push-button stopper removed. I decided to go with the DrainWig. Funny name!

I would get this after I figure out how to unclog my bathtub. I tried the alternative baking soda route and the typical commercial stuff to no avail.
Sorry to hijack the thread! I'm just tired of asking DH to do something about it.

I have one. It does catch a fair amount of hair, but it isn't super great. Water can back up still, if the inner ring fills with hair. There are holes on top to drain the tub if the middle gets covered, but the tub will back up until it gets over the top. I have the blue one. It is also staining my drain/area around it blue. So, while it does take longer for the tub to back up each shower, with my thick hair it still happens each shower.

Try the Zip It tool as someone else mentioned. You can find it at hardware stores or similar.

It is amazing and gets so much gunk out of the drain. The gunk is gross fyi.

I do it myself because DH does not need to see my shed hair, a privacy thing.

I also wipe mine off so I can reuse it several times before tossing it.

I use a small strainer in both the bathroom sink and the bathtub, it's effective and cheap. I tend to use it like this (bump inside the drain):



But if I want to use the drain stopper, I place the strainer the other way, where it looks like a little hat (bump faced up). Works very well either way.

Nothing came out with the Zip it tool for me. Like nada. I was very surprised and after closer inspection I noticed that the draining hole is tiny, which might explain the slow drainage. Dh says he'll rent a snake and he thinks it will do the trick.

These are at the Dollar Tree in packs with the larger ones which I use in the kitchen but when things ( such as cheese) get stuck in them I get grossed out and toss them out lol.

I have no problems with it moving, but do make sure it's not super huge. They're affordable enough where you can give it a go and see if you like!

Cheese? Haha, lovely I've never use these in the kitchen, only in the bathroom drains. But I do get irrationally irritated when DH decides to be gross not notice the strainer and coughs/spits/brushes teeth/etc. with it on! Can't stand him sometimes, lol.

well to be honest thats the real reason I'm disgusted of them lol. It's not really the cheese or food. It's that when I see certain foods I can't help but wonder if it's really blown out/ hacked up mucus . I went through some traumatic times cleaning mucus from the bathroom strainer back when we had one. It's something to do with culture/religion ...my husband cleans his nose and hacks up mucus in the shower. He blows his nose in the sink too . I am literally more disgusted by sink and tub mucus than I am of poo .
When my mil is over I've heard her gently blowing her nose in my tub because she has to wash before prayer . This is why I need bleach products on hand at all times

OMG! I can't! I would straight ban folks from entering my home if they were regularly spitting and wheezing on a strainer! RE. MOVE. IT these things do not a drain stopper replace! I've gotten really good at always removing them from both the tub and sink after wash day, because DH will act a fool when he feel like. Lol!
