Trouble straightening roots...

I have a difficult time getting some areas of my roots straight,, the back mostly,, its so hard getting the iron in just the right position to not leave me with those awful waves near the top when the length is straight it looks terrible,,,( i think we've all seen this LOL and i mean on all hairtypes 4b up to 2c when they fail to get the back all straight) so i feel like im a little abusive going over the same spot again and again in order to pull it just the right way to straighten it.... anyone have any technique tips for this??,,im not good at sectioning my hair... maybe that would help??

I also blow my roots, but I don't use a brush. I spritz my roots first with UBH Dew (any heat protectant should work), pull a small section of hair taut with my hand, and give the section (roots only) a quick burst of hot air from the blow dryer.

So Glad you asked this question... I too have been suffering from a bird's nest... even after i flat iron in very small sections... my hair seems to revert a couple of hours later... So I may try the blow dry thing...

I start each section flat ironing straight up so I can get all the way down to the roots. I start out slow and then faster as I glide down the length and then kind of swoop my wrist for a slight bend in the middle.

Wow - I just reread that and it makes NO sense.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:, i think it makes sense,, im gonna try doing it straight up too...

I agree with some of the other girls. the smaller width irons are good for that. Also adding honey to conditioner and applying it directly to ur trouble spot before u wash is good too. I do this when i'm really far into my stretch. the honey loosens my curl up a lil bit so when it's time to flat iron it glides smoother and i don't have to go over it so much.
