I do this, but I'm relaxed. Natural ladies???? I'm curious about this because when I do my daughter's hair - I just trim the ends of her braided hair. Should I being doing something differently? And how often - as needed?? Good question username. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

yeah, since i am natural and my hair is really curly and i get a lot of shrinkage, it is never really apparent how level my hair is (or isn't). i figure i could get away with a trum that wasn't perfect, you know?

Hi Username,

I trim mine all the time. I have a mirror that I bought from Walgreens over five years ago that has a circular handle in which I put around my neck. I then tighten the mirror so that it doesn't move. Since my bathroom has mirrors also, I look through the mirror that is on my neck to see the bathroom mirror behind me and I cut. 9 out of 10, my haircuts are always perfect.

I'm natural and I make several braids and then just trimm the very ends, you can see the splits if you can bring your hair around to the front if not use a magnifying mirror.

Hello There!

I am also natural and I trim my hair myself (for the most part) There are times when my beautician may do them if I slack up on my self trim. But when I am consistent, there is usually no need for her to go-over my work.

Anyway, this is what I do...

I oil the last 6 inches of my hair with vaseline making sure I cover the ends.

Then I put my hair in about 8-10 two strand twist and wisp across my ends with good trimming scissors.

SIDENOTE: After oiling my ends, I can usually tell how much needs to be trimmed. How you ask? Well, if after oiling my ends with the vaseline and they still feel "course" or look unruly, then I know that the unruly course end-parts need to go.

I usually my my hair in about 8-10 two-strand twist and then trim the very ends of each twist.

My Mom is natural and I trim her hair. I blowdry it with a handheld dryer. Because we do this only every six months or so it doesn't cause her any problems. I blowdry it straight and trim the ends that didn't straighten as much as the rest of the hair. That's how we recognize what needs to go.

I am gonna go for it tomorrow. I think I will take the blow dry it straight first route since I haven't used any heat in over a year. And it will be nice to get a chance to see how long it is anyway.

I will let yall know how it goes. Thanks for all your advise!

So, I did it. And the trimming part was really fun!

I am sure non of you are surprised, but my hair doesn't look a bit longer since I had it trimmed over a year ago. I took off about 3 or 4 inches all around and I think it might coulda used another inch. But I think this was a good start.

Thanks, everyone, for your help!

Do you think this could be done with relaxed hair? Also, do any of you use thsoe expensive a$$ scissors that they keep behind the counter? What types of scissirs do you recommend or NOT recommend?
