Supergirl and Tracy are just two of the women who come to mind when I think about the myth that surrounds cutting the ends regularly equates to increased hair growth. They went against the norm and only trim on an as needed basis, which is probably like once or twice a year and if you have seen their albums, nuff said. If anyone's interested in this challenge, here are the rules:

1. Minimum no trim duration-6 months.
2. Keeping with the techniques that promote stronger, healthy ends, i.e., moisturizing the ends, protective styles (sometimes), minimal heat on the ends (curling irons, blowdryers),etc.

Anyone in?

I'm having my hair trimmed on the 17th (dealing with some splits). After that...count me in! I just hope I don't have a lot of splits to deal with. If I don't trim once every 3 months...they start taking over. I'm going to give it a try though.

I'll join!!

Great! Since I did the big chop,I was trimming my hair nearly everyday to get rid of the permed ends. I have decided not to trim again until October-hopefully my hair will be at mt shoulders.

i was already doing this so i'm in. but i think my ends are starting to thin out

I want to join, I just trimmed my hair after my last relaxer with motions. My hair has been shoulder length for about two years and I would like too see more progress in growth, I just got the puritan pride vitamins about a week ago. plus I decided to use my ceramic flat irons once a month instead of once a week. I condition wash my hair every 2 days and shampoo toward the end of the week with a deep conditoner. lately I have been making some progress thanks to you guys

Im in...though I plan to trim in July or August. Now that Im natural, I dont plan to use heat that often so I hope to only trim twice a year, and if my ends arent in bad shape, once a year

Sounds good to me! I usually only trim a couple of times a year anyway and do A L-O-T of conditioning. I trimmed at the beginning of Jan for the New Year. I am 1-2 in past bra. Trying to get to mid-back/waist. I am in with you all!!!

I'm in. Sounds great. I don't trim. I hope to go to the Salon this month or next and will probably get a teeny trim then. Don't trust my hair to anyone else so I probably won't get trimmed again this year unless I manage to salon again before winter.

Good idea!

Count me in! I'm texturizing my natural hair today, so I may need to shape, but that's it!! I plan to refrain from heat so nipping even to catch a stray end should be minimal (I hope!). Very best wishes to us all!

I could say Im in on this challenge but it wouldnt be fair since I hate to trim my hair and already trim on an as needed basis.

You can count me in, too!
The last time I trimmed my hair was on December 1. I hope that my next one will be in June.

Count me in. Last trim was on February after my touch up. So I am in like flin. I am ready casue I had already decided that I was not trimming again for atleast six months. So that should take me up to about August.

I'll join, too! I'm already three months in and plan to get my hair trimmed in June. It will be tough being strong when/if I go to have my hair straightened next month but I'm preparing myself!

Gosh 6 months, that sounds cool but after 10 weeks or so my ends get so uneven and tangles...I wish I could join...

I'm in! I haven't trimmed since last December. My protective style will be 2-strand twists, so that I can continue using the braid spray daily.

I decided for myself, to only trim twice a year, so I guess I am in too. I trimmed in january, and will be trimming again in june. I wear flat twists, 2 strand twists, and curly fros to protect my hair.

Count me in! I am already 6 months into the plan and will trim my hair in 2 weeks when I get I my relaxer.

Thank you for the honorable mention Bbln...

and of course, I'm in too. I just got a trim, so I can wait until the summer is well over to get another. I'll probably trim sometime in September. That'll be perfect. I wear my hair curly virtually all summer anyway.

P.S. to everyone, when I decided to do this little challenge about a year and a half ago, I found a stylist I KNEW would only take off what was needed and had her give me a good trim to start. Don't let them scalp you - but it's easier to hold out if your ends are ok to begin with. You feel better about waiting, and your hair isn't actually 12 months in between trims by the time the 6 mos is up.

BTW Adrienne and Allandra do this too...that's why *I* started.

I'm in!
I just was thinking of starting a personal challenge for myself for this anyways. I had my last trim 3 days ago, so I'm starting fresh. And when the lady cut my hair, I just told her to cut all the splits off - nothing about dusting, conserving length. I just wanted to start off fresh and even again.

I never trimmed before, but I always had some splits... although they didn't really travel up I never liked how my ends felt. When I started taking care of my hair, I moved up to trimming twice a year because I thought it kept my hair healthy. Now, I want to hold out for as long as possible (as long as the no trimming isn't causing more damage than it prevents). Minimum six months, hopefully a year and a half. But I can only do this if I keep my ends in tip-top shape!

So how do you make sure your ends stay nice? I know of:
1. No heat
2. Vaseline every day... Dampen the ends before you apply the vaseline?
3. Protective Styles where the ends are tucked out of sight?
4. Not combing more than once a day?
5. Not brushing the ends?

Are protective styles really all that beneficial? I get breakage at my nape from wearing a bun too often because of the stress it puts on my nape... And even with braids, your ends are still exposed.

If you get breakage at you nape, try another protective style besides the bun.Heck, since I cut my hair,I can't do a decent full bun anymore. I will be wearing my hair in twists /twistouts,braids/braidouts, shake and go's ,etc. Just make sure you condition and moisturize your ends say on a daily basis
