I am currently tranistioning my hair right now for the past five months. The top part of my hair has grown out but the bottom part will not grow. I have been keeping it in twists and not putting any heat on it. What is the normal amount of time it takes for all of it to grow out? My hair is naturally wavy, so it will never grow into an afro, AND I WILL NOT DO THE BIG CHOP!!!!

You don't have to do the big chop to transition. Your hair is growing, but it does take patience. Sometimes different parts of your hair grow faster than others. The average growth rate of hair is 1/2 inch a month, but some peoples hair grows faster, some slower. The main thing that you have to do during your transition is to keep your new growth moisturized to avoid breakage. And find a style that requires little manipulation, such as braidouts, buns, braids, weaves, etc. Hope that helps.

Don't be discouraged, when I first started transitioning the sides of my hair were growing sooooooo slowly. But then good ole LHCF came to the rescue

I read posts on carrot juice, flaxseed oil, biotin and Surge.....and I went and bought them all!

Now my sides are growing out at a much better rate. It's gonna take me at least a 1 1/2 to 2 years to grow my hair out to the length I want but I'm up to the challenge.

The one thing that helped me the most though was to stop putting so much tension on the area(my sides) I wear a lot of ponytails or pulled back off the face and I guess I was pulling too tight. When I loosened it up, it was a lot better. Good luck with your transitioning, you'll find a lot of support and inspiration here
