Transitioning via Dominican Blowouts

Has anyone ever gone all of the way through the transition process using only dominican blow-outs?

I'm 7 weeks post with a little over an inch of new growth and realized after this weekends wash that I CANNOT DO IT ALONE! LOL.

I really think my best course of action would be weekly/bi-weekly blow-outs, trimming a bit off every few weeks.

That way, I don't have to mess with it much myself.

What are the cons of doing this?

TIA

i've never had a dominican blowout but after reading about other peoples' experiences on here, it seems like the biggest con is that you would be putting yourself at risk for heat damage. some heat damage can cause your natural hair/new growth to become permanently straightened and your curls will no longer revert. i'm six months into my transition and i've actually stopped using heat because i'm afraid of this. but then again i know i might just be overcautious and a bit paranoid about applying heat to my curls. hopefully someone who's actually done this can step in and help! i'm curious myself...

I'm transitioning w/out heat...but I really came in to say that I love your siggy! You two are a beautiful couple!

OK...back to the subject at hand...

I also love your siggy pic. You both look so happy.

I'm transitioning. I was doing good with a no direct heat regimen for Months 7 8 & 9. Then I would blow it out after every deep conditioning but I didn't use the flat iron and I wasn't blowing it out on high heat.

Well, now that I am in month 14 of this transition, I think I will be blowing out my hair after every wash It is really the only way I can manage these 2 textures on my own.

I have to say that if you are going to use blowouts you should not do it biweekly...that is too much. But if you deep condition every week and then get a dominican blowout after deep conditioning once a week I think your hair should survive just fine.

Talk to Pinkskates she is a Natural who uses heat regularly without damage.

When I transitioned to natural I did so without using heat. I also limited heat usage when I was completely natural for 2 years. But now I am texalaxed/relaxed.

Keep in mind if this is something you plan to do use a heat protectant and make sure you deep condition before these blowout. Last thing you want to do is damage your new growth from the heat and end up with straight ends and having to cut off the progress.

i used to go to dominicans every week for six weeks when i was first transitioning. but i would not get a full blow out i would just get a rollerset and blow my roots. i've had no problems at all.

I believe Jlove and Sunshine One was able to transition with Blowouts.

You and your husband make a striking couple. Nice pic.

The first time I tried transitioning I went to get DBs twice a month. It was fine at first, but then my hair started looking really thin. I was allowing them to blow it completely straight even though they always used a heat protectant. Knowing what I know now, I'd only let them blow my roots if I were you and get a curly set if you go frequently. The Dominican salon I go has made some changes and use steam treatments when ever you get a DC now.

This time I have been flat ironing and other non heat methods and I'm 6 months post. I know before the end of the summer I'll have to start back relying on the Dominicans because I can't afford going to a salon for press or straighting.

Good luck!

Please please use a heat protectant. I Use to get those bi weekly blow outs. what they did to my hair can be seen in the beginning of my relaxed album. Thin thin limp hair. You may want to reduce the frequency of them. To make things simple for me and not deal with the NG, I now co- wash and doing braid outs for summer. Im almost 22 weeks post.

I am 24 weeks post and do not recommend getting blow outs too much. My last one was April 7 and I am still recovering. I have lots of damage at my temples (both sides) from the high heat. And this was from just the roots being blown out after my rollerset.

I do have a friend who is natural (a few years now) and you would never know it based on her blowouts. She uses a place in Harlem on Columbus and 110th and she was just telling me today that the blow outs are not as damaging as some other salons that use super high heat. I may go and watch her get her hair done one day to check it out.

This is pretty much what I'm doing...although I only get the roots blown out. I'm about 8 months post trying to make it to 12. In my siggie I'm at least 7.5 months post.

Yep, I transitioned w/blowouts and suffered no damage. I made sure I DC'd faithfully, used heat protectants, only had the roots done, maintained moisture during the week and used heat only once a week (for the blowout).

My Dominican stylist was very understanding when I told her I was going natural. She never tried to make me relax and is always very gentle w/my hair.

I would NOT recommend a Dominican blowout during your transition. It's too much heat! A rollerset is cool. But their blowouts are ridiculously hot!!! I don't miss those days:nono:

months 4-9 i did this religiously. worked for me.

my mom however...not so much, but she also did not put a thing on her hair between salon visits. we're working on that now.

what heat protectant did you use all the ones I use end up sticky!! I wonder if that sabino moisture block is a heat protectant?
