I'm a long-term transitioner to natural hair, and I want to have a straight style sometimes. Before I started transitioning I had no problem getting my hair straight. But I also wasn't taking care of my hair- I would blowdry then straighten with my Conair flat-iron with no heat protectant except Dudley's pressing oil. Ah! This ultimately led to my hair breaking and not retaining growth so I am laying off the heat.
And minimal heat has made my hair thrive. My hair is so much fuller and the ends are less see-through. I want to wear my hair straight sometimes which means heattttttt (I usually just washngo and my hair looks natural).
But this is the 2nd time I've tried to straighten my hair and I got the same not so great results. My hair looks dry and it poofs so quickly (I live in FL also, so the humidity is a pain). My mom said it could be that my relaxer is "wearing out" but that doesn't even sound right. I need some help on how to reduce the poofiness, especially since in the winter I don't want to wash n go (wet head + cold = not fun). Is it possible the relaxer on the ends of my hair are wearing out?
Granted my last 2 relaxer touch-ups were done by my mom, not by stylist, and it was her first two times ever doing a relaxer. So I guess it could have come out under-processed (especially since my wash n gos look like I have a full head of natural hair).
The products I use when I straighten are:
Olive Oil Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion
SoftSheen Jam Shining and Conditioning Gel
Chi Silk Infusion
Isoplus Pressing Oil
