I'm only like 9 weeks post relaxer and recently decided to transition since I'm personally sick of killing my hair with chemicals, just my thoughts

But I'm already experiencing massive tangling throughout my thick 4a/b hair! The only thing that helps is detangling with my fingers in the shower while I"m rinsing out conditioner, but that is only a temporary fix as my hair starts to tangle again as I brush it back to style in my usual pony tail. Any suggestions? I've used surge detangling spray once and it helped a little

I know you said that you use your fingers to detangle...did you try with the comb yet? I was able to use my fingers when I was 3 months post relaxer...but after that my hair would get too tangled. I had to use a comb (K-Cutter) under the shower head on high. Another thing that helps my hair to detangle easily was using a lot of conditioner...and using my Denman gently on my wet hair after washing.

I haven't tried a comb yet, I'm reluctant to do so becasue I've heard combing wet hair will lead to breakage. And forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what's a Denman? Some kind of comb?

Denman is a type of brush. It's supposed to be the best one out their. You can find them at Sally's.

I use a lot of conditioner and comb while wet sometimes. Usually, I put coconut oil on my hair and comb/pick while dry. Works every time!

I battle tangles more when my hair is loose. So, I pull it back as much as possible. I also use a Denman, but I notice a slight increase in lost hairs. Nothing alarming.

I have a couple of products that help detangle, but I'm always looking for something better. The Fructis 3 minute deep conditioner is very helpful. Nexxus Humectress as a leave in, and VO5 Hydrators (wet or dry hair), AMPRO protein gel (doesn't get hard or flake), Surge (revitalizer and Woojee), S-Curl and glycerin added to most of these boost de-tangling.

I've found that the better the conditioner, the softer my hair is and the less tangling I have. When I was transitioning I found that my new growth seemed super resistant to styling, but as soon as I got past the first 3 inches it was the softest easiest hair to work with. You may want to try gently combing your hair before you wash it and when you shampoo, let the shampoo do the work of cleaning your scalp. Also washing in the shower helps so that you're not manipulating the hair too much.

Also try the Tangle Tamer. You can get it at Target and it works like a dream. It's by the curling irons, etc. After you detangle with that prior to shampooing, your hair will be more manageable (less tangly) after being wet. Better than any other hair product, this has saved me.
