Transitioners, how are you styling your hair after washing it?

Currently I'm doing rollersets, which is making the transition quite easy now. Just curious to see what ther rest of you are doing.

I was doing rollersets as well but now I think im gonna give that a break. Right now im rocking a braidout and will be alternating between that and cornrows for the rest of the month. I may go back to rollersets though.

At first, I have been experiementing with several styles... buns, ponytails, braids, bantu knots, etc. but they weren't cuttin' it for me after I wash my hair because I didn't like how my hair looked afterwards since I have different lengths of hair. I was doing fine with rollersetting but they started not to work out for me because I was just too lazy to take the time to set my hair on a bunch of pink and green rollers...

...but now, I have came up with a plan that I think will work for me. It's been 21 weeks since my last relaxer and I have decided to wash every 2 weeks (on Friday night or Saturday). After I wash and condition my hair, I'm going to set my hair on these larger magnetic rollers that are red (I want to try mesh rollers in the near future). Then I'll let my hair airdry. Once it's completely dry, I will use my Maxiglide to straighten my roots. I like wearing my hair down so this is what I'll be doing.

I feel like using larger rollers won't take up sO much time in doing my hair. Plus I got most of my thin weak ends cut off this week so I won't have as much trouble rolling my hair around the rollers. I remember it would be difficult because my thin ends would tangle sometimes and they would be considerably thinner than my hair closer to my scalp. And I would have to wrap the thin ends around the roller then roll my hair up which was too much work, anyway...

Sorry for rambling... I just like talking about hair and some of my experiences with it! :weird:

I put my hair in two ponytails so that it can air dry. In the morning I'll throw a little moisturizer & gel on my hair and brush it into a low ponytail. Nice and simple!

mine is pretty simple... a wet wrap with two rollers at the top and dry. then i wear it down two days out of the week and the rest of the time its wrapped. :)

Ponytails, wet buns worn out and sometimes covered with a baggie, wash n gos with stretched natural hair, and the rare blow out. I keep it pretty simple.

I do braidouts using 16 braids. Then I wear it in a low bun or up in a claw clip. Now that I'm transitioning, everyone thinks I look exotic or something. I'm like, I have regulation "4a" hair. Who new kinky hair was exotic? Haha

I'm not a transitioner but I get comments about looking exotic also, especially with braidouts or braided styles. From other black people too!

This is very true. I got that a lot this summer when I was wearing alot of braidouts. SOme people I know even asked if I would wear my hair like that more, because they really liked it, and thought that the braidout style I used looked exotic. So, braidouts are a keeper for me. I think they're beautiful!

Sometimes I toy with the idea of transitioning, though. I don't know if I want to have to use relaxers the rest of my life, but for now ....

I washed my hair yesterday and was too lazy to do a rollerset so I put my hair in a bun. I think I will continue doing this now since I finally found a way to get soft, smooth, shiny hair when airdrying in a bun! :yay: I may try the rollerset thing later on in the future or something when I have time and when I feel like it.

I rollerset my hair after washing because that's the fastest way to get my hair to dry. It takes too long with wraps and the like.. and blowdrying is not an option.

For the folks that are wearing rollersets, how long do they last? And are you doing tight rollersets to blend in with your newgrowth? Sorry for the thread jack. :p

Oh I don't do rollersets to curl my hair, just to dry it. I always wrap my hair afterwards.
oooohh! Gotcha! So how many months are you into transistioning?

Almost 2.. LOL (that's NOTHING.. and also the only reason i can rollerset then wrap my hair) I would be at 5 if I hadn't been convinced to get a relaxer in January.

Poohbear,
PLEASE Share your method :) Im not transitioning but its been nearly as long as youve been transitioning since I had my last relaxer. My hair is soo finicky, sometimes it will dry soft and smooth while others it dries like straw. What products and method are u using to achieve soft smoth shiny airdried hair? :)

One of my friends did the BC about a year ago and she is loving her hair now...she gets press n curls and maintains it well in between presses every two weeks. For a while she wore some tracks along with her press to achieve enough length for a cute style, but now she is weave free and she loves her hair. Her regimen while natural is similar to yours and her hair is thriving. wishing u continued success!

I did a conditioner wash with Suave Professionals Humectant. Then I did the following on wet hair...

I put NTM Silk Touch Cream and Hot 6 Oil all over my hair
Combed hair with wide tooth comb (took a while to do this, esp. for the position of the bun I made), then smoothed with hands and placed hair into a ponytail
Applied ElastaQP Recovery and WGO on ponytail, twirled into a bun
Wrapped extra hair around wet bun to give more volume (I'm thinking about getting even more hair to make it more volumptuous)
Applied Citre Shine Gel to edges and tied with a satin scarf
After I took the scarf off, my hair felt great and laid down smooth. I have a couple of pics of my bun in my album. ;)

I also had a question about your friend... how does she dry her hair before getting it pressed? If she airdries, what style does she airdry in? Thanks in advance!!!
