I just hit 19 weeks post and for the life of me I forgot what most people did to manage the difference in textures.
Its a lot harder to look that up in the posts so anything you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Congrats on making it to 19 weeks! :)

I'm 29 weeks post, and this is what helps me:

*Moisture, Moisture, Moisture!!

I cant stress that enough, its crucial whether your transitioning or not. I moisturize my NG and ends every other day. The baggie method helps too.

*CO Washes~ I  CO Washes, it makes my hair soft, moisturized and more manageable.

*Deep Conditioning~ I deep conditioning once or twice a month, its great for adding moisture and its also good for strengthening your hair.

*Protective Styles~ They help me retain length, and its also easier for me to deal w/ my textures this way.

HTH~ :)

Can't add much more to what Sweet Ambrosia wrote. When I was 16 weeks post, I didn't moisturize nearly enough (hadn't joined the hair boards). At about 25 weeks post, I became a moisture maniac, and I have suffered less breakage as a result.

How are wearing your hair during your transition?

I transitioned for one year and during that time I never wore any type of style that forced me to use a brush, so in other words, no ponytails, buns, etc. I got through my transition by wearing wet sets such as strawsets and flexi-rod sets, and also having my hair cornrowed (half in the front w/ my real hair or full head w/extensions). Also, conditioner washes helped tremendously! Low manipulation is the key. Since I kept my hands out of my hair I really forgot about the different textures and went about my business. I hope this helps. Check out my fotki for styles that I wore. Happy hair growing :antlers: .

Detangling wet hair in sections is the most helpful thing I have come across.

I part my hair in 4 sections and hold them in place with an ouchless band. While my hair is soapy (most people use conditioner, I can only do this with shampoo) I detangle my hair from the ends up with a wide tooth comb. Then I run my denman brush through the new growth only.

I keep my hair sectioned off while deep conditioning, rinsing and applying products (WGO,MTG, Aveda Be Curly) Doing this keeps my hair from tangling and also keeps the new growth stretched.

Hmm... You dont want to wear braids? :) Well braid outs are a must and low manipulation styles are always a good idea. Im forgetting something..... MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE!!!! These ladies arent lying and it cant be said enough. Good luck :)

Great Advice Sweet Ambrosia! I would like to add that baggie-ing the entire head with your favorite oils (coconut) will help keep your hair soft, less tangled and ultra moisturized.

I really wish I could CO wash but my schedule doesn't allow for it. I get home at close to 9pm and dont want a wet head. I only say this because Im SURE it can do something for my hair.

I did the roller sets often. I got tired of it this week and did a regular set and it was the worse thing I could do. I miss the low manipulation of my hair already.

I already detangle in sections but its when I go to add rollers and try to part the hair I realize that it was as detangled as I thought.

I am seriously considering braids...its just that I had a bad experience with kinky twists. I am trying to find someone to do cornrows or flat twists for me for right now. I didnt want to do this because I wanted to really learn how to deal with my hair...but school/life is getting difficult and I could use a break. Im sure my frustrations in life are playing out in how I deal with my hair.

Sorry for the rambling.....
