Transition to APL or longer???

I am contemplating on transitioning for my scheduled 1 year mark which ends March 27th, 2007 just a couple months away. I already have 6 inches of new growth (yay me!) which, since I have a long neck, falls just below the base of my neck. I am still so scared to BC!
Has anyone not BC'd/trimed and just let there natural hair grow out on its own to at least APL???
