Hi Ladies,
So I'm sitting here feeling perplexed and concerned as I condition my hair...I am 15 months into my transition, and things are going relatively well. Every week, I pre-poo with coconut oil or Silicon Mix, shampoo, then condition. I apply a leave-in and then braid my hair in 5-8 braids...voila! lovely braidout!!

HOWEVER

Both this week and last week, I have managed to comb out two small chunks of hair. I can tell it's coming out near the root and not at the demarcation point. And I think they came from the same area near my nape/near my left ear. My hair used to break in this spot every few years or so when I was relaxed. Like clockwork! Break-grow back-break again in 2-3 yrs. Crazy, right??!

I seriously thought that transitioning to natural would alleviate this issue (among others) and I am too perplexed about why this is happening.

Do you ladies have any thoughts?? I'm not worried too much about it right now, as it's just a small area. I plan to BABY this area during future washes and remain prayerful. I'm tired of this small patch, ya'll. :nono: Besides encountering a SHS, I've had almost no setbacks--til this.

So ladies, please help me out!!

OMG...is there some 15-month curse??? LOL I'm almost there and I'm having major shedding issues. I've avoided SHS like the plague, but I've also missed out on some good DC treatments.

Since you've had issues with that area on your head before, have you gone to a dermatologist to see if there's scalp damage? If it happens even while transitioning, it may be scalp-related.

I won't claim a "curse," but if others have had some issues around this time period I would definitely love to know...it'd be nice to feel some comfort that we'll make it through these challenges.

OP, I have this same problem with a patch below my left ear. I haven't found a solution and it's been like this for probably the past 5 or 6 years. The patch was much larger when I was relaxed. It has gotten smaller over time. I believed it was the relaxer but it came back after going natural. It's dry and prone to single strand knots. It's constantly tangled. I had a small bald spot there at one point. It behaves so different from the rest of my hair. I've just learned to blend it in.
