Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Hey guys, I got a touch up today, and now I'm noticing a problem. My hairline appears to be very dry and overprocessed. I am going to lose some hair on my edges too, I know because my hairline is sensitive. I was preoccupied this morning and didn't even realize until now that I wasn't based. Was this the root of my hair horror? I'm not sure. The owner of the salon did the touch up and I thought she was pretty good. But now I am wondering WTH she was doing. The lady that normally gave me gentle perm applications no longer works there and I don't know where she went. I am really worried about my hair, as I had gotten it pretty healthy. But worrying will make the situation worse.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

So sorry to here that. Don't go back!!! I would suggest keeping your edges moisturized to prevent breakage. Since she didn't base you, I'd wash again with a neutralizing shampoo. Good luck!!!

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

I am keeping them moist. Nicki, why do you suggest washing again with neutralizer? And when?

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

I suggested washing again ASAP since she didnt base your scalp. It exposed you to more severe scalp burns and we all know how sensitive the skin along your edges are. If you are not experiencing any discomfort, then it may not be necessary. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

thanks Nicki. My scalp is doing okay now. I lubricated them and put some Biotin Cream on, so the edges are tingling from that. Surprisingly, my scalp did not burn during the process, although when I realized about the skipped step (basing), I was mad. I really like the way they style at the (Dominican)salon, but hated being passed off from person to person. This missed step may have been becuse I was passed off from one lady to the owner. I wasn't thinking, but then again she should have been. I guess I'll find a new salon.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

I agree with making sure you use an excellent moisturizer on your hair, such as Humectress. Also, massaging your scalp with a combo of rosemary, lavender and jojoba oils will be very soothing and will heal your scalp quickly.

Hey Mel /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know who did your relaxer and I wouldn't let her do my relaxers any more b/c she always seems to be focused on too many other things when she should be relaxing someone's hair. I don't have any advice on what you should do to fix the problem but I'll PM you the new stylist I go to for relaxers. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

I'm sorry to hear about your relaxing experience. /images/graemlins/frown.gif I must also be very careful with my edges or else they will be overprocessed and dry. Now, I barely relax my edges and I do them the last 2 minutes before I rinse out the relaxer.

Oh yeah, your pics and hair are beautiful.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

I use to have that same problem when I would get touch ups at the salon. It's so easy to over process that area, I almost lost all my "baby hairs" and the skin turned white. I started using organic root stimulator temple fertilzer and I noticed improvement in about a month. I haven't put a perm there in 5 months and my hairline is almost back to it's former glory. I agree w/ kitchen t, it's best to place the perm there during the last 2-3 min.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Sorry to hear, babe. What kind of relaxer did you get? How long did she let it process? Was it longer than normal?

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Thanks for the love, sistergirls. Nay, I tried the sample and I like it. It works well for my daughter too. Thanks for the hook up. Jennifer, I PMEd you. Isis and Oli, I agree about the moisture factor. Honi, Aphogee hadn't worked well for me recently, but I will do an emergencee treatment. Kitchen, I wish you could be my KitchenTician. Dannie, I just bought some ORS temple balm. Glad to hear it works! Audra, I responded to you in the thread about Julie. Same relaxer, don't know how long, but it was TOO long.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Nice pics....your hair looks good. Love that pic with your head thrown back on the couch...nice /images/graemlins/wink.gif I would neutralize again too. What I plan on doing myself is to neutralize 3 days after I get my hair texturized just to be sure...lol. That may help then try and bump up on hot oil treatments and conditioning. Also try vitamin e on your hairline. I personally like using cortiscone (there's liquid or cream) on my hairline when nit's starting to look sparse.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

In two days I will neutralize again. Which shampoo do you use, Faith. Thanks for the compliments. I am gonns try to take some new pics and post em.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Well, the last time I trusted my stylist and didn't neutralize I just shampooed with my Biotin shampoo (by Millcreek) but this time since I'm self relaxing ( I didn't like the way my stylist combed my hair...LOST A TON OF HAIR, so I won't be going back)I'll neutralize with the Affirm neutralizer.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Sorry it didn't go well, Melodee, but if I were you, I'd wait at least a week before doing a protein treatment. I agree with the other ladies that moisturization and oils are the key, and Faith's suggestion for vitamin e sounds like a great idea. I hope it improves /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Mel - I don't really have any advice re the relaxer, but I hope everything works out for you /images/graemlins/kiss.gif If the idiot that did this is Carmen, then I'm not surprised because she's usually too busy talking to the other stylist to pay much attention to the client. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif Anyway, please keep us updated and I hope your scalp feels better.

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Zoya, I neutralize just in case I didn't neutralize enough on day 1. It's my way of safe guarding against relaxer residue being left in. LOL!

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Thanks Miss-Brown for the encouragement!
Faith, I took your advice and I used Isoplus Neutralizing shampoo on my hair tonight. Just in case!
Dreamssold, I will keep it moisturized, thanks!

Re: Touch up didn\'t go so well!

Good /images/graemlins/smile.gif Did you try the vitamin e or the cortiscone?
