Too Tight Weave

What would you do if your weave was too tight and you paid $200?

I'd go back to her shop, tell her what's going on and ask her to redo it. If she's a honorable stylist she'll be more than willing to do this..if not, never go back again and just take it out yourself. $200 isn't worth losing your natural hair. You can always reuse the weave anyhow.

I voted to wait it out, because I have had tight braids before (as a 'tweenager) but after a few days they loosen up and become comfortable, lol. As a teenager and adult I have had braids, but they were never too tight or uncomfortable. Fortunately, I just had the right braiders, I guess.

Although I did vote to wait it out, I only said so cuz $200 is a lot to throw away on a hairstyle. If I warned the stylist beforehand not to do it too tight and she still did, and I couldn't bear it afterwards, I would either A)Ask her to loosen up and redo some areas so they are comfortable, or B) Ask her to take it out if she refused to do "A." Traction alopecia is not cute.

My coworker said her freind got her weave too tight around the crown and her scalp BUSTED! OMG what the hek does that mean. I wouldnt wish that on anybody

OMG. It probably means just what it says. Busted. Probably the tissue split open from so much pressure and pulling. Its definitely possible. Just like people get a "busted" lip from being in a fight/hit. It doesn't take much to split skin open. That's definitely a severe case, though. After seeing that case on Judge David Young's show about a "Botched Weave," I look at it all in a different light. (E.G. The girl on the episode ended up having scalp surgery due to injury and further infection to her scalp from a weave that was initially too tight anyway). YUCK. And, as for spraying with Sea Breeze, when the girl in the episode was asked by her stylist if she wanted her scalp "Sea Breezed," she lamented, but the whole reason she was having problems was because her scalp was actually cut/injured and an infection had set in. Ya'll need to see that episode, but it will gross you out.

a) Go back to the shop and tell her that you're still taking pain killers and that your hair is coming out. If the shop has a manager, ask to speak with her if the stylist will not listen.

b) Co-wash your hair. I am tightening my weave now because I washed it a few days ago.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. I took it out for fear of what damage would be done to my own hair and the weave was busted anyway. The way I see it, if the stylist is joking or pressuring me to endure the pain because it will last longer, I'm gonna remind her that it's MY money being spent. I would rather have a looser weave that didn't last as long than one that is too tight and I have to cut out after a week. Sorry, I'm still pissed about it, lol

I say take it out! I left one in for 1 week and I had a hair set back because of it. I had hair thinning (my hair is already thin by genetics) and I lost 2 inches or more of hair due to breakage.

I voted wait it out before I realized u had already waited a whole week! After a week, I'd go back to her ask her to redo it or give me a full/partial refund. Depending on how long it's supposed to last and how long u wore it, I'd ask for a percentage of my money back.

I would try harder though to have her redo it. Just police her braiding skills or have someone else braid it for her.

I'm actually considering getting a sew-in (for the first time ever) to hide my hair over the winter so this helps me a lot! Thanks.

lol Read the date of the thread ladies. LOL

Yeah I peeped the date too! But after reading the frightening reply below I had to track down the episode about the weave that caused an infection and led to surgery.

OMG this woman's whole cornrow of REAL hair detached from her scalp :perplexed

Please y'all, please, if you feel the braider braiding too tight just leave don't stay in the chair getting your hair done. Google pictures for "traction alopecia." I'm sure many of those ladies thought they could just wait out a tight weave or braid too.

Is she a liscensed stylist? You can take her to the BBB and complain if she refuses to redo it or give you a refund. I voted before I read the entire post...you definitely should take it out if it's still hurting after a week! But I would definitely demand a refund (I'm not too sure if you really want her touching your head again after this experience!)

I got braids that started out way to small around the edges. I too thought if I waited it out they would loosen and I would be Ok. I tried putting every oil I could get my hands on my edges trying to save them. One day I was out and caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and the braids had pulled so many strands out at the root it looked like I had bad dandruff around the edges. I RAN home and took those bad boys out!
I voted take them out.

I just had one installed, the first week sucked...but what I did the first night was spray s-curl on my edges...it helped a lot surprisingly. Then I methodically pulled my edges gently out of the weave. So now you can't see them hanging out, but if you pulled it back in a ponytail you could...but I don't care. I am doing this to grow it out, not lose it! However, if it's super tight all over, I would take it out. The rest of my hair isn't too tight, just the edges because the net was pulling back on them. Also, after the first week I washed it and it felt better then too

Also, as you are letting the scars heal make sure to put something with a lot of vitamin e on them. I'm sorry girl, I know your pain it sucks!
