Hi everyone!
Well i'm 10 months post BC and is getting harder and harder to deal with my hair, i have too much hair and i don't really know how to manage it. Is not even that long, but now is giving me headaches while in the shower when is time to detangle, when i have to style it and in the night (so all day long :lachen:) I'm working out 6x per week so i know all the sweat is not helping that much either

I was thinking about a texturizer, the thing is that i love my natural hair but i don't want to spend too much time trying to be "friends" . So guys i'm really begging u this time what you recomend me to do, get a texturizer (i'm planning in leaving it in my hair for no more than 5 mins) or what are your tricks for detangling, styling and also in the night

I don't have a current picture, the last one i took last month was with stra8 hair. Also i don't really know my hair type :nono:

I will really appreciate all the help i can get
TIA

Is your hair long enough to put into twists or another stretched style? Maybe braidouts instead of wash n goes? If you can plait your hair before bed I think that will help as well. Does it feel well moisturized? Have you tried washing in plaits?

Don't worry, I know you'll find the answers to your tangling issue!

Is not that long for plaits or twist i think, i will try to take a picture tomorrow so u guys can see it.

I still moisturize my hair every day, sometimes twice a day, and i co-wash everyday as well.

Thanks =)

Oh honey I've been where you are, twice. Both times I texturized with a relaxer and both times regretted it so much. I remember saying the same things you are saying: too much hair, takes to long to detangle, etc. What I would do to have all that hair again.

There simply is a learning curve and you have to be patient with yourself and your hair. Watch the thoughts you think and the words you say. It is so easy for your frustration to overtake you. You have to be honest about how you are feeling but you also have to build up a strength and resilience and positive attitude about your hair and your ability to handle it. Most things we want badly don't come easily. If we keep saying marriage is hard or school is hard and focus on our frustration we will divorce or quit school. You have to dig deep and try new techniques and products. You have to be open-minded and positive. A texurizer might be the answer, but I doubt it. You can do it!

It's not too much hair. It's a blessing, a head full of thick healthy hair that you are learning about. You've come this far and you can go farther.

Shampoo and deep con in braids or twists
Be patient
Braid it up or wig it if you need a break

If all these women on this site can handle hair way longer and thicker than ours, then we can handle a year's worth of growth:yep:.

Don't give up on yourself or your hair.

install some braids with extensions, or cornrows.
Also consider detangling outside the shower, either wash you hair 1st or shower first; detangle in smaller parts and use a dc regularly.

Make your life easier.
- Make detangling easier: Oil rinses under the shower before shampoo. Research it in this forum and try rice bran oil, it's cheap and gets absorbed quickly.
- Make moistuire retention easier: keep conditioner on your hair (not on your scalp, though) and rewet every morning, OR co-wash every day.
- Make sleeping easier: slap a satin cap on.
- Make products easier: don't but many oils and products. Stick to 5 quality things you like. Shampoo, conditioner, DC, rice bran oil to detangle, seal and everything, and if you want to, ecostyler clear gel.
- Make styling easier: if braidouts and twistouts are too much work, wear a wash n' go with conditoner and gel, or damp bun your conditioned and towel dried hair every day. also, butters are trickier than oils because they sometimes dry out your hair on about the third day, give tangles and need to be removed properly.
- Make DC easier: DC on wet hair before jumping in the shower, before shampoo and everything and add oil: you won't even have to oil rinse, and even if you shampoo afterwards, you will keep the moisture.

This is just what I do, because I'm lazy and tired, and it's working for me, hope it works for you as well!

great advice ladies.

Be patient Taina - that's all I wanted to add.

(relaxer changes the game irreversibly)

OP, this is where i am as well. I'm all out of creativity and energy to deal with this hair. I'm tired of twist and twistouts and afros and wash n gos and braids. At this point in the game I've been considering cutting it down and going back to my cute short style. my hair is between sl and apl and I'm so over it

What is your current regimen? The products you are using and style you are wearing can definitely make detangling a breeze or a disaster.

My hair is very, very thick and curly just like yours. I shampoo and condition my hair in four sections. While showering I leave the conditioner in my hair for at least 15 minutes so it will help soften it. I then detangle with a shower comb, but I have to go over the sections with a comb with smaller teeth closer together (not too small and close though). This definitely makes my thick hair more manageable.

if i were you i wouldnt get a texturizer because anything can go wrong. what if your hair starts breaking? what if after all of that you still have issues with detangling?

what i would do is slather my hair in evoo or coconut oil 5 minutes before you start to cowash. leave the conditioner on until you sinsh your shower and then start to detangle. if you have to, also mix oil in the conditioner. this is what helps me and i co wash daily. also i would suggest using kinky curly knot today 2x a week in the shower.

Thanks a lot ladies for you advices, actually the texturizer was the second option i rather get tricks to handle my hair than put some chemicals on. I will be practicing all your advices to see wich one works better for me =)

Plz dont relax or texturize your hair, I was just stalking your fotki the other day :sekret:

Have you tried installing some indivual braids, to give you a break. I been there before.

Taina, what products are you using to detangle your hair? Is your hair long enough to put in a ponytail?

Its hot as hades right now so I am doing curly ponytails every morning. You want a conditioner that will give you lots of "slip" and make detangling easier. I put my hair up in a ponytail or bun and keep it moving.

I've never had a texturizer so my opinion is probably not what you want to hear. I think you shouldn't do it because I have a feeling you're going to regret it. I know you don't like long hair so do you think cutting it is an option?

I have the same issue. I don't have a problem with washing and detangling it in sections. It's the styling! Try coils, I think they're quicker to do and can be done on short hair
