I think I saw this thread on this subject before but I can't seem to find it. I was wondering if its possible to over condition. If I deep conditioned once a week will it be detrimental to my hair? Should I do a deep protien treatment every now and again? If anybody knows the name of the thread please post it because I am almost positive that someone has asked this before. If not, just let me have your opinions. TIA!

I deep condition once a week (sometimes twice a week) and I do light protein every other week.

My hair has thrived from this rotation so I've been sticking with it. I don't think once a week is too often to deep condition...not for relaxed hair anyway. As you know, natural hair is different and has different needs. :)

I was thinking a deep cond 1x a week is ok and maybe I should use a protien cond. too every now and again. Sebastian Potion #9 is what I was going to use since one time I used quite a bit and it turned my hair to straw. I figured it must have quite a bit of protien in it. Only this time I will go easy on it.

Thanks Pheonix. I think this is the one I was referring to. BTW, how did your results turn out?

I found that I was conditioning too much, or applying too much at one setting. I cut back and my hair looks better. I'm still trying to find that balance between what my natural hair needs and what my relaxed ends need. My natural hair needs so much more moisture than the ends. This just might drive me to BC even though I don't want to. :crying3:

I think everyone's hair is different. My hair is thick and tends to stay dry, so I have been trying to deep condition twice a week to help it out. I haven't noticed any ill effects. But I would think those with finer stranded hair would probably not want to do it this much. I think once per week is OK for just about anybody.

I've never had an instance of too much of a moisturizing deep conditioner. But i do think that too much of a protein deep conditioner is damaging. Your hair will become brittle and break off very easily. I am speaking from experience... :look:

I think it's possible to over condition. I have just realized that I'm probably over conditioning my hair when I cw. But, it's not breaking my hair or anything--in fact, over conditioning makes my hair feel soft and well moisturized (and it helps it lay flatter too). The only reason I realize that its over conditioned is because I lose some of the curl pattern in my natural hair--the coils/curls hair become frizzy and undefined. After a week of no cw, my hair was curly/coily again. I'll probably continue to over condition unless I know that I want to wear my hair out immediately with a lot of texture.

I've deep conditioned twice each week since I came to LHCF and my hair thrives from it. I use a light protein conditioner every few washes. I find I don't need the protein that often and I usually forget anyway, except the wash day before relaxing.

i agree. i'm the other way round though myself. i need moisture like twice a month and light protein 3 times a month.
