Should beads only be worn by small children?

I want some small cornrows done and my cousin is gonna do them on Sat. I kinda want black beads on the ends. Do you think beads ought to be regulated to just lil children and adults ought to leave that alone? Gimmie your thoughts. My husband thinks I'm trying to re-live my childhood or something.
ETA: I want the small wooden beads or the regular small black ones.

Ok question before i vote...do you mean the wooden beads (on the larger end) or the plastic colorful Venus and Serena Wiliams beads?

Small wooden or just plain black. Thanks for asking!

Hmm. I see women of ALL ages wearing beads. I guess it would depend on what kind. I think the wooden ones would be more grown up than the plastic ones. I have an aunt that still wears beads and she gets a lot of compliments. As long as you put your own unique twist on them it should be fabulous.

I don't necessarily think they're too juvenile...

but...

I'm not a personal fan of the "12 beads on every strand" sort of look for adults. I like to see more random, upscale bead looks--more like beads as another type of hair accessory rather than beads forming the entire style. It's hard for me to articulate...

i think women who wear them look really nice, especially if accesorrized with the right jewlery. but my two comments:1) i think they create a certain natural look that should match your overall style 2) i think it also kind of depends on your work environment. if it's a quiet office, i wouldn't want to be walking around with my hair clicking. :look:

Well, I am a SAHM so it doesnt really matter about what "the boss" says!
I really like the natural look. Thats why I think I'll go for the wooded beads. I just found some wooden beads I put in my daughters hair about 2 years ago. They still look pretty good so I may use them.

The bottom line is you should do whatever looks good and feels good to you. I part my hair down the middle sometimes and wear two ponytails. Now that I'm bunning more regularly, I twist them up into buns and go on about my business. Whatever you do isn't permanent so there is nothing wrong with having fun and experimenting with it.

I had my hair in cornrolls a year ago and had African shells on the ends. I felt the same way as you do, but I received many compliments on them.

It depends on how they're done. What you described seems like it would be appropriate. I have a beaded style in my fotki if you're interested in taking a look. It was a mix of cowrie shells and 1 black wooden bead on top of each one.

Balisi, your hair is gorgeous! I really loved your shells! I may have to bite that. I am gonna go ahead and try it out. I'll post some pics once shes done.

Oh I wish my scanner was working. I wore some (okay ages ago 2002) when I went to Florida for vacation. It was sooo darn cute!!! I wore the black wooden beads.

Thanks girly! Looking forward to seeing the pics!

I think the longer the hair, the more beads would be appropriate. I plan on cornrowing my hair this summer, but I don't plan to use beads. Quite honestly, I thought they were outdated. :perplexed I'm glad this topic came up.
