I am going to put some in this weekend and I have a question. When you got them done, how did you have your hair cornrowed underneath, and generally, how many cornrows did you have. I'm going to get my mother to cornrow my hair and I'll add the crochets (thanks Faith for explaining the method). I don't know if I want to do the circular method because I would like to be able to wear nice high ponytails.

Thanks!

PS-These are the types of hair I am thinking about using.

1st choice
2nd choice
3rd choice (but a little smaller than these)

Well when my mother who does braids for a living, use to do my hair she would simply cornrow it straight back. Then she would take the end of the braid and fold it up. Then she would crochet braids so that the end of the braid was incorporated into the braid.

Let me know it you don't understand.

About how many cornrows did she do? I was thinking about having my mother do maybe 7 going to the middle of my head, and then 7 going up in the back to meet in the middle of my head, and taking the ends of those and forming on plait and tucking it somewhere. I just want it to look decent when I wear it up in a ponytail, cuz one time I had them before, the lady cornrowed them in a circular method and it looked awful around the edges.

I would wear my hair up with the crochets down in the back. The person would do the circular style braiding.

the lady who used to do my sisters would cornrow the front to the crown as if she were going to wear the rest down and then once she was done with the crown she would cornrow the back in a circular pattern.
